Sophomore Schedule

Hi, so we are scheduling for sophomore year and I was wondering if this course load is manageable?

Honors Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry
AP Statistics
Chemistry 1 + 2
Honors History
Honors English
Gym

I was specifically wondering about taking AP Stats. See, Honors Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry is one of the hardest classes at school and was wondering if taking AP Stats would be even worse.

Also, do you suggest for me taking AP Environmental Science? Thanks.

I would replace AP stats with a foreign language!

I actually thought about that, but I am taking French 2 and she doesn’t offer anything higher.

I would talk to your guidance counselor about futher classes in French. Two years is not going to make you a competitive applicant if you are planning to try for selective colleges, although it meets the minimum for most state and directional schools.

See what ways there are for you to take French 3. An independent study? An online course? A dual enrollment class (in that case you’d take College French 2).

Okay. I’ll try that. But is it important to have French 3 if I want to go into stem?

After looking into the foreign language requirements for top schools, I’ve seen that they like to see at least 3-4 years, plus AP French. If you’re aiming for a top school, then I’d highly recommend doing French online, if there’s not a higher level offered, during the school year or over the summer (such as Sterling Academy, which is advancED accredited). Make sure that it gets approved by your District before you enroll.

As for doing AP Stats, I think it would be manageable. From what I’ve heard, it’s not severely difficult, even if math isn’t your strong suit, and with your course load (considering that you wouldn’t be taking AP World & Honors Chem), I think it’s totally doable.

Okay thank you. If I took AP Statistics and AP Environmental Science at the same time, would you think that is doable

Also, I am taking Honors Pre-Calculus/Trig. and I heard that’s a really difficult class. So I was wondering if taking AP is manageable

You don’t need AP stats alongside Honors precalculus. AP stats would be an elective. However you do need levels 3&4 (or college levels 2&3) in a foreign language for the universities you’re targeting. Those are considered core courses.

The only thing you’re missing is a foreign language. I second the point that most elite colleges like seeing a foreign language through all 4 years
