Scheduling Help!

Scheduling Help!

I'm a freshman engineering major planning on taking Math 1b. At CalSo my advisor said to sign up for it during Phase II (needed Phase I for CS61A and Phys7A).

My phase II is about to start and looking on schedule.Berkeley.edu, I can see that there is a perfect LEC for my schedule, but all the corresponding DIS sections seem to be full with a couple people waitlisted already.

Should I sign up for the LEC and waitlist as many DIS as possible hoping to get in? Is it probable or even possible that I'll get the DISs that I sign up for? or should I just assume its not possible and start trying to plan for a different math class?

Any advice/ suggestions would help. Thanks.

I have the same situation for Math 53. I plan for waitlist spam but also signing up for an alternative class in the likely case I do not get off the list.

Waitlisted position 54 on CS 61a lecture 2. (Current Enrollment): 79/128. chances I’ll get off?

What are you using as your alt? Are all the freshman math classes in the same situation (1a,1b,53,54)?

Lucyan:
I am confused by the waitlist process in general and in addition to figuring out my own math schedule issue I started this thread to figure out more about how it works.

i.e.
Why do some classes have open spots but there are still waitlisted people (like in your case)? Is getting off the waitlist just a first come first serve basis? or are other factors like your major taken into consideration. And most importantly how probable is it that you get off waitlists?

so yeah don’t really know what your chances are, but hopefully someone can/will clarify more about how waitlisting works

^ I’m not sure, but I googled and found this thread, which might be of use: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1367890-waitlists-despite-class-not-being-full.html

I enrolled in CS61A and Math1B and now waiting on Physics 7A

lol…

good thing there isn’t a waitlist for physics. I can add the class whenever someone drops. I’m refreshing the d@mn page every minute

Isn’t waitlist better than no waitlist? Because there’s a better chance of getting in than just waiting for someone to drop the class?

fuuuuuu… Scheduling is a lot more annoying that I thought it would be. I’m just going to sign up for the math 1b LEC and spam DIS waitlists. Most of them only have a couple people so I think I should be fine? Fingers crossed…

Now I need to look for a backup math and a RC course that’ll fit with everything else.

no waitlists – means that you have more of a chance if you actually want the class
waitlists-- for lazy people and hopeless if you are after 20% of the list

Ok so I finished signing up now…

DEFINITE:
CS61A
Phys7A
Celtic R1B (R&C class with good professor and supposed to be not that hard)

WAITLISTED:
Math 1B LEC (spot43/total enroll limit 411) and Math 1B DIS (spot3/total enroll limit 25)

Couldn’t sign up for a back up math class because I had already hit 16 units total (waitlist + definite). Hopefully I’ll get in and if not I’ll just start next semester in Math 53 because I’ve already taken calc and mvc in high school.

In case I don’t get into Math 1B are there any math decals that would be good to help me prepare for Math53 2nd semester?

And thanks for all your posts / help.

You’ll get in Math 1B, don’t worry. People usually drop out of switch out during the first week. You’ll see a significant drop after the first midterm as well.
