I'm an incoming freshman (fall semester) and I'm trying to figure out my schedule. I'm pretty pleased with what I have right now, bar one issue. They way I've set it up right now, I have one day per week when I have three classes stacked consecutively. I have a R&C lit class (1.5 hours), followed immediately by a Poli Sci lecture (1.5 hours), followed by a Calc discussion section (1.5 hours). I know that stacking classes works because of Berkeley time, but is stacking three in a row unreasonable? These are pretty crucial classes, so I want to make sure I can remain attentive throughout the 4.5 hour period. Thoughts?

Bring a snack to maintain blood sugar levels.

and drink water during lectures, it helps you focus better

DOON’T do it! Ahh I can’t stress how much of a pain it is to do that. If you’re like me and you need all three meals around the same time, I would NOT stack it like that. I once took a 7 hour class with lab that was continuous with no break for a “real” lunch, just snacks. Even then, you had like 5 mins to eat ur snack, and honestly, how much can a snack fill u up?

I was so hungry and even though my course was only six weeks, it was torture.

kindof depends what time of day this is all happening at, plus what your sleep schedule is like. most people can be pretty awake around 10 am if they’ve had a good night’s sleep, but even when i’ve slept 8 hours i always feel like crashing from 2-4 pm, especially if i haven’t eaten/been able to walk around/see daylight. but i’d advise bringing lots of snacks. and exercise in the morning or afternoon on these days to keep your energy up.

4.5 hours is doable, though I wouldn’t say it’s something most people are going to want to do.

I had that for two days a week one semester. Just bring plenty of snacks to munch on during poli sci lecture (and math discussion if your GSI allows it). It’s especially doable if you have no class for the rest of the day, or if you have enough time to eat a full lunch right after (assuming you are a strictly three-meals-a-day person).

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I’m going to try and move the Math discussion section, just because it’s an important class for me (as a potential pre-Haas student) and I want to make sure I’m giving it my full attention.

My other option for the discussion section is a 4pm-6pm time slot on another day. I was warned against scheduling too many late afternoon classes, as you ideally want to leave your afternoons/evenings open for: a) doing fun stuff and b) studying.

Do you think that afternoon classes on two days will be that much of an issue?
