ok...i'm planning to take astro 10, history 7a, psych seminar, and sociology. I didn't want any gap between my classes so my current schedule is all back to back classes.
To current students....do you recommend all back to back classes? I thought i could manage this because i have like two classes each day, but some of my friends say i won't be able to concentrate if i dont have any breaks.

and if you have gaps between classes...what do you do? go to the library or something?

I've done back-to-back classes at least one day a week from about 9 in the morning till 5-6 at night about half the semesters I've been at Cal. It can be miserable but it's pretty doable. My suggestion, is if you can, to space out a small block like 30 minutes to 1 hour on a "heavy load day" about half way through the day so you can take some time to decompress, eat lunch, talk to a friend or just catch up on reading.

This last semester, I had no class on Friday and an hour on Mon and Wed, but paid for it on Tues and Thurs. 9 AM til 6 PM on Tuesday and 9 AM til 5 on Thursdays was pretty brutal with no break. It's especially brutal if you have classes that REQUIRE your attendance.

Back-to-back is fine. However, how do you only have 2 hours of class per day? Shouldn't you have at least 3-4? I like back-to-back classes personally, but I've never been able to get them all to be like that. In between, if it's in the morning, I go back to nap, or I eat or something. When the weather is nice I stay outside.

If that was refering to me: It's quite easy to get only 2 hours of class per day. It's just a manner of when your courses are scheduled. Somedays, you might have no class at all.

I think what they meant is: doesn't 2 hours of class per day come out to 10 hours a week, which is only a 10 unit load? Don't you need at least 12 units to be full-time?

Meh. Lucky mon-thur people . . .well, i'm going to learn french, or else i would have aimed for that. Most of the languages classes seem to be just about if not everyday of the week, as I would expect them to be. C'est la vie.
