Scheduling Question: Languages and APs

We are doing scheduling and this is currently what I have:
[Junior Year]
--12 Honors Math
--AP Statistics
--AP Lang and Comp
--AP Physics B (no calc)
--AP Gov't and Politics
--AP Macro/Micro Econ
--Gym/Lab
--[Open]

So the problem is with the one period I have open. I've taken 3 years of French so far, and I've heard that it is important to some colleges that you take 4 years of language. There is only one french teacher at my school and he is not good at all. Plus, I'd be taking 6 other AP Tests and studying for French would be useless (because I wouldn't do well anyways). So I am 100% sure that if I did take AP French I would NOT take the actual AP Exam.
The only other option is to take French 200/201H, which is a college level French course. However, due to the small number of students taking French, both the 200/201 course and the AP course meet the same period and learn the same things, so it would be pointless to not take AP and get the extra wieght.
BUT, I just found out today that AP French is the same period as AP Lang, which is taught by an AMAZING teacher and it will be her last year teaching, so I really want to take that.
So, right now my only option if I want to continue French is to take an Independent Study. I feel, though, that it would be pointless to take an Independent Study in AP French if I wasn't going to take the exam. But I also feel that it wouldn't look good to only take French for 3 years.
What makes me even more uneasy is that kids who take Spanish have so many more opportunities: they have great teachers and can take either Spanish 4H, Spanish AP Lang, or Spanish AP Lit, and most of my friends are taking both Spanish AP Lang and Lit. So I feel that a choice to not continue French would look even worse compared to kids who take Spanish

So basically my choices are:
1) Take AP French Independent Study but not take the AP Exam
or
2) Don't complete a 4th year of French

Which do you reccomend/think looks better to colleges.

Your schedule looks strong enough that you can probably afford to drop French--though you should check with your colleges whether they a) require 4 years of language and b) whether they count language taken in middle school towards the number of years. Do the independent study only if you absolutely have to--there's no other reason.

thanks.
I took a high school French course in middle school (9th grade Honors), and it shows up on my transcript and counts towards high school credit, so wouldn't that mean they should count it?

Have you had the french teacher?
Why not just sign up for french and deal with the teacher, and not take the AP test, unless he is insanely hard or something.

You're luckier than me, only 11 people, including me, signed up for junior year french, and they didn't make it a class. But of course, when Im a senior, and havent taken french for a year, the class is available...great. And just like you, spanish is overcrowded and goes up to a 5th year (if youve taken it in middle school), so unfair.

Better to take an AP class you really want [ Lang] than one you are reluctant to take, so don't worry about dropping French. But another question: are you taking any AP classes this year? If not, I would not recommend that many for SR year. You also have to write your college applications the first semester of your SR year [ unless you are smart enough to get them written before mid Sept]. The college application process in itself is a part time job-something many Seniors don't realize until they are in the midst of it. Don't kill yourself with your SR schedule, as you don't want your grades to suffer. If you do have time to do AP French through independant study, then do so, and do take the AP test. It may help you place out of taking more foreign language classes in college, if you choose a college that requires foreign language classes for graduation.

A couple of clarifications:

For Christalena2:
1) Yes, I've had the same French teacher for the past 2 years. There is only one French teacher.
2) The reason I can't sign up for French is because it is the same period as Lang. I can sign up for French Independent Study, but I'm not sure it would be worth doing an Independent Study if I am probably not going to take the AP Exam.

For Menloparkmom:
1) I am currently a sophmore. The schedule I posted in my OP is the one that I currently have planned for Junior year, next year.
2) I realize that college applications take up a great deal of time senior year. So hopefully I'll be able to be smart and get the bulk of them done in the late summer before my senior year. Thanks for the advice!
3) For Senior year I have somewhat of an idea of what I'd be taking. Would you care to provide an opinion on whether or not it is a reasonable workload?

[senior year]
--AP Art History
--AP Euro History
--AP Lit
--AP Calc AB
--Forsenic Science Honors/Gym
--Elective/Elective
--Elective/Elective
--Study Hall First Pd (I can come in late Senior Year)

The electives would probably be either Computer Graphics and Advanced Computer Graphics, College Marketing Honors, Interior Design, Writing to Be Published, or Journalism
