I just got a mailing from TCNJ inviting me to some reception. Anyone have any experience with this/gotten the same invitation? The invitation didn't say much.

This may be what I was invited to my senior year…I think it was referred to as an Honors Reception or something like that lol. From what I remember it was just like your basic info session and tour except they gave you a free bagged lunch consisting of a sandwich, chips, fruit, dessert, etc. They said in the talk that we were invited because they “felt that TCNJ would be a very good fit for [us]…” and they encouraged us to apply early decision (IMO it was them basically saying, “Apply because you’ll get in.” It was a very nice event. Again, not sure if this is the same thing as what you were invitied to but it does sound awfully similar.

Yeah it said the invitation was for “select students” etc. Was there a separate reception for each department? For this year they have one for each department, and then a general one later. I’m probably going to attend the science one because I want to major in Bio.

Yea, I got that too. But I don’t think I’m going because I already went on a campus tour. I’m going to apply to TCNJ anyway.

You know I honestly can’t remember if they had separate programs for each major. I went 2 years ago and at that time all the college visits blurred together lol. I had already been on campus 2 previous times but I still went to the reception. I think the more you show a college that you’re truly interested in attending the more they’ll want to accept you.

HazelEyez,
I went to that luncheon this year. Even with funds tight I think they upgraded the food to a nice buffet. I don’t think there was a separate program for each major but they did have it grouped into several similar majors.
Do you think the invite was generated by SAT scores? My GPA was not that high (3.41) and they invited me. My SAT was 2160 with 1380 math and verbal. I applied RD. What do you think my chances at a Bio admission are? Do I have a shot at getting offered a few dollars in merit aid?
I hope your opinion about schools looking at your contacts is accurate as I attended three events when invited. Thanks for your help.

I’m certain SAT scores definitely have something to do with it. I’d say you have a very good chance of getting in for Bio, as well as getting some merit aid (although this is always such a subjective area so it’s impossible to ever know for sure). Good luck!
