Thanks everyone. The wait continues.

Well good news, I have just found out that I received the 4 year Lechner Scholarship
($10,000 total). I am thrilled to have received this. Maybe the engineering department will come back with one in the future. So good news is they are definitely fixing the problem and you may be able to find out now.

Congrats aggieengineer! That’s great! Did it show up in your howdy portal?

thats great!!! a good amount of money

Aggieengineer, what kind of stats do you have? If you don’t mind sharing.

I’m a NMF and haven’t made A&M my first choice yet. Will it still show $0 in scholarships/financial aid?

yea your scholarships will show up if they offer you any, but their is an error so check back tomorrow to see if you have any offer… btw what is your first choice?

WooHoo! D got Lechner and Opportunity award…3500/year. We are so excited! I had to click on the fall term link to see the award.
It still doesn’t show in the amount granted.

My S now has 2 scholarships that show up on the Howdy Portal, one which he had already been notified of, and another that he didn’t know about. It still doesn’t show 2 others he knows he is getting, so I guess it isn’t complete yet. Something else that is odd: there is a letter regarding need-based financial aid that he can view on the Howdy Portal that starts by saying they are pleased to offer financial aid, then shows the calculation of what he is getting: $0. I guess that’s why they are so pleased to offer it!

My stats:

5/1164 at texas public school. 31 ACT. Many extracurriculars that I don’t want to take the time to list lol.

Anyways, congrats everyone. I knew it would all work out.

Oh and oosmom, your news makes me so happy. I know how much that meant to yal. Keep the family tradition going!

Barfly, jrt, & others: DS now has some of his scholarships listed but not all. Jrt…DS is NMF & has A&M as his #1 but only the President’s is posted along with a note that states he will get the other NM ones when his #1 choice is verified by NM Corp (odd since we sent them the NMF letter stating A&M was #1). His merit plus is not listed and engineering scholarships he is getting are not listed; however, two are listed that we didn’t know he was getting are listed: Aggieland Scholar & Opportunity Award. Apparently, these came thru the applytexas application. Barfly, DS also got the letter offering financial aid…amount zero! We did not file the FAFSA, so I thought that was strange. Perhaps that is the case with you as well. Congrats to all! :)

What field of engineering bringbackpluto?

bringbackpluto, sounds like our guys are in the same situation. I will send you a PM about it, if you don’t mind.

why wouldnt you do fafsa?

pierrechn, the FAFSA is not required for the non-need-based merit scholarships at A&M, although I have heard other schools require them of all scholarship recipients. We did one because we were told we had to, but as it turns out, we did not have to.

i just thought everyone in the U.S. would do the fafsa? its free money

Depends on if you have financial need. In some cases, a family will not have financial need therefore will not receive aide. It just depends.

pierrechn, that “free money” comes from other people’s taxes. In our case, we don’t qualify for any “free money” because we have saved for college. When you fill out the fafsa, you disclose college savings, etc. We don’t qualify, and shouldn’t qualify, for a government hand out, but it is a bit frustrating, because we know people who bought cars for their kids, go skiing every year and vacation in Europe, yet they qualify for need-based aid because they haven’t saved a penny. The system is flawed.

Barfly…got your pm and sent one back. I am tech challenged so let me know if you do not receive.
