Anyone receive scholarship offers from both UT-Austin and Texas A&M? Who's making the better offer?

Last year DS got a much better offer from UT than A&M (in Chem E). He was offered two scholarships from UT that covered 2/3 or more tuition and fees.

Wow, that's great anxiousmom! Anyone else?

No other Texas parents out there tonight?

Dd has been accepted to both. Texas A&M talks about over 50000 but Ut so far only says 13000, both concerning National Merit Scholarships. We are still waiting on official offers though.

Dd just got a scholarship offer from Texas A&M for the presidential scholarship which is 12000 over 4 years. This would be on top of the National Merit Offer. She also received an offer through the A&M financial aid office for another 1000. That would put her A&M at 55000 with a possible 6000 more after her 1st semester at tamu. So far Ut has talked about 13000 over 4 years. Dd still is leaning toward OU because of her desire to study languages etc. Also UT is several thousand more expensive than Texas A&M.

bump..................

Congrats proudparent. We're still waiting to hear from both A&M and UT. D applied to both in Dec. Already accepted to Baylor.

Thanks Texasmama. I lean toward Tamu anyway since it was unofficially my alma mater though I ended up graduating from UTHSC in Houston with a BS in Nursing. I have a daughter at A&M who will finish at UTHSC in Houston in conjunction with MD Anderson Medical Technology Program. The daughter currently at Tamu was not a merit finalist or even commended (very close) but still received 10000 Lechner scholarship and they have thrown in another 1000 each year. Of course also check into the B-on-Time Loan that is forgiven under some circumstances and 0 % interest if it isn't. My dd that is a senior now will probably choose OU no matter how much money A&M offers since she want to be a liberal arts major.

I'm bumping this up. Anybody else heard from UT and A&M with offers?

From UT/Dallas, my DS got this letter yesterday.
it says...

As a NMF,

Full tuition & mandatory fee for 4 yrs.

$5K cash award each yr

$1K housing award each yr (toward rental expenses at Univ Village student apt complex)

$2K one-time support for international study abroad

we had one from UT A&M also and I believe it says over $100K for 4 years, if I remember correctly but not 100% sure.

Butte, is your daughter considering going there? I may be in s similiar situation of choosing between a lesser school full scholarship i.e. TCU and UT where it may be like 10K a year after scholarship, which would you choose. I want to go to Law school to and apparently it does not matter where you go for undergrad should I take the offer it would really help my parents, but I want to go to UT?

Dbate,
my son was accepted through ED to his dream school, (un)fortunately - lucky for him but not sure for me & my wife. So, we don't have any option here.
I promised him to pay our EFC during his college years before submitting his ED forms in October, if accepted.

In your case, you're absolutely right.
IMO, professional schools like law & medicine, undergraduate may not be too much an issue, I think. Some of my friends are MDs who're out of state colleges but they don't care about it & enjoying their lives very much - happily & wealthy.

Good luck, Dbate!

Being a NMF, my S has received a "full-ride" from TAMU. They say it pretty much covers everything but maybe a few books (even some personal expenses). I don't really know how all this works. He has been accepted to UT but we have yet to hear about scholarship monies. Being just a NMSF he automatically gets the OOS tuition waived.

That's great wemel. Is he taking the TAMU full ride or does he want to go to UT?

wemel:

do you know if all NMF recieve "full-rides" from TAMU?

i'm pretty sure i will be selected a NMF (i am currently a junior) and if i could go to TAMU on a full ride that would be ideal.

anythin you know would help

rss, yes, as long as you list A&M as your first choice school, it is just about a free ride. As someone else said, it is just short of a full ride, but for me, Engineering was generous on top of the NMF and there should be no shortage.
And butte, there is a WORLD of difference between UTD and UT Austin/A&M. There is a reason UTDallas needs to give a lot of $$ to attract people. Not saying it isn't right for your child, though....

k awesome. so even if national merit doesnt offer you the 2,500 you shouldn't be too far off from full tuition?

thanks

It will be more than full tuition from A&M. You shall receive a lot of mail from them soon.

rss: tuition is the cheapest part of A&M....fees, room, board, books, etc. is much higher than the tuition...
