I'm going to scholarship day this weekend, but I just got that Honors Waitlist letter. It invites me to apply for honors the 2nd semester of freshman year, and to try a honors class in the fall even though i cant be invited to the honors program yet. Does this mean I am unlikely to get a scholarship? I am now worried for my scholarship chances! I would have expected it was harder to get a scholarship invite than to get an honors invite.

Oh and edit: I am out of state, if that matters.

Not true at all. Honors is run through its own department and operates independently from both admissions and the office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. My son had friends who were Carolina Scholars and not in honors.

Knock one out of the park at scholarship day!

eadad, Carolina Scholars are automatically in the honors program. Maybe that's a new thing. I've always been confused about this - I know that all Robertsons are placed into honors, but I've heard that not all Moreheads are.

Ah, it doesn't matter anyway.

Dogdog, I hope that letter doesn't scare you too much! This whole honors waitlist thing is new, the pool must be especially competitive this year. But I would take it at its word. If it says to take an honors course and apply, I'd assume that your chances of getting in are pretty good. And even if that DOESN'T work out, Carolina is still awesome without the honors program. Freshman year, it's nice to have those courses available to you, but it's not a huge deal. I'd say that all of Carolina benefits from the honors program just because it brings in some great professors and the courses are super cool. I'm proud of that, because unlike at other schools, no one is at a disadvantage for not being in the program.

If you have any specific questions about life at Carolina you can always feel free to PM me! Good luck!

Thanks guys!! Hopefully I can still get a scholarship :/
Is their a cap on the number of honors courses you can take if you aren't in the program? And if you can take classes without being in the program, what exactly is the point of being in the program?

You are right about Carolina scholars, I was confusing it with Carolina Scholars at my D's school (USC) and my wife had just corrected me but you beat me to the correction :) you are also correct in saying that all Moreheads are not in honors though many are. It is more of a numbers thing there since there are far more Moreheads than Robertsons each year.
