Scholarship Day Invites?

hmm micina, UNC said that to be considered for merit $ you should apply EA, but I dont know if applying RD cancels you out for merit aid.

does anyone know how many kids UNC refers to Robertson/Morehead from the EA pile?

There are two scholarship days, one for EA and one for RD. You won't be considered for the scholarships with special applications (Morehead/Robertson/Pogue) if you apply RD, but everything else is still a possibility

ChocoMom is right about there being two scholarship days and about needing to apply first deadline if you want consideration for the Morehead-Cain.

However, I am pretty sure that second-deadline applicants ARE considered for the Robertson Scholars Program.

When are Scholarship Days scheduled for this year? Was the invite by mail, email or both? Thanks!

My invite came in the mail and also appeared on my UNC homepage. It's scheduled for January 30.

Thanks! Hope to see you there!

if i got an email invite for Morehead, does that mean I am ineligible for the scholarship days? or are they separate?

ha. i live like 2 minutes away from UNC. I'll definitely be fulfilling my invitation to scholars day. dont know if i want to drive through downtown traffic though ;)

Morehead-Cain, Robertson, and Scholars Day are separate, and if you go to Scholars Day, you won't be eliminated from consideration for Morehead-Cain or Robertson. When awarding scholarships, admissions takes into account that some who receive UNC scholarships will go on to also receive the Morehead-Cain or Robertson.

Last year Robertson semi-final phone interviews were scheduled the same weekend as the Morehead-Cain finalist weekend. You cannot apply for both MHC and Robertson, just one or the other.

Finally, if you are are invited to either the EA or RD Scholars Day, GO!!! You'll learn so much about the school and the admissions program in the process, and you may come away with some great incentives to choose UNC.

thanks eamuncmom. I haven't gotten a scholarship day invite, but I did get the referral from the admissions office via email for the Morehead. It's possible to get both then? Also, does anyone know how many people the admissions office refers for Morehead?

hey I am also invited for the Scholarship Day at UNC Chapel Hill would you give me some details about how it went for you? BTW I am In State student

When did you get your invite?

one day before christmas

With the Likely letter or after? Thanks!

no I did not get a likely letter. But I think this is a good sign of my acceptance. (hope so)

Agreed! Thanks and congrats!!!

Hmmm, I applied early, kinda let down because of no scholarship day invite, but I moved on to Morehead Semifinals. Didn't make it to finalists, but I just got invited for the second scholarship day...didn't know that was possible...but I'm not complaining!
I've heard that there is a cap on the amount of money that in-state students can get through this. Can an in-state student even obtain one of the larger scholarships, or is it just the smaller ones?

The max an in-state student can get from merit at UNC is the cost of tutition and maybe fees (as far as I know). Out of state students can get up to tuition, fees, room and board (and some stipend money depending on what you pick for a room or meal plan).

Don't know why it works that way, just does. I think maybe it's because a lot of the out of state scholarships are funded privately while the in-states are funded by the state.

I received a likely letter but no scholarship invite. Is it still possible to receive a scholarship?

Same here. I did not move on for the Pogue scholarships, but I just got invited to scholarship day. I'm kinda confused now...for which scholarship am I invited? Does this invite guarantee some amount of money? Cause I'm OOS and I desperately need some aid/scholarship.
Btw, the traveling expenses is not covered by UNC, right?
