Scholarship Discussion

not a finalist :frowning: lets hope financial aid comes through

if they end up giving full tuition to an RD applicant who ends up not going to Wash U, will they give the scholarship to someone else? or does it just go back into their fund of scholarship money for next year, or something?

Iā€™m really excited. Does anyone know what the interviews will be like?

Also, what are you guys doing Thursday/Friday? Iā€™ve got nothing scheduled apart from the dinners and the evening events, so Iā€™m thinking of just walking around campus, taking tours, and maybe sitting in on lecturesā€¦

For those scholarship finalists, could you post your stats, such as GPA, Test scores, and EC?

@batfan

Iā€™ll probably sit in on some lectures, too. I am also in the process of scheduling a meeting with the director of the Summer Scholars Program and maybe even some previous participants.

AG - the $ just doesnā€™t get used. They donā€™t offer the scholarship to someone else. The number I read from a previous yearā€™s post was that 27 out of the 40 students offered the full scholarships attended Wash U.

@wildwood888, if youā€™re curious about my stats, I have them in an old chance me type of thread of mine. Iā€™ll be posting full stats and all that after decisions come out.

@nina1228, oh that sounds like a good idea! I was accepted to Summer Scholars too, but I want to know more about the school first, since Iā€™m an RD applicant. :slight_smile: Hopefully Iā€™ll see you during Finalistsā€™ Weekend!!

Are there summer scholars recipients that may or are not planning to attend WASHU or the summer scholars program?

@FLtoWashU

The program is offered to a certain number of applicants, and around 20-30 accept their spot in the program.

@FLtoWashU,

Their website says the SSP is ā€œfor up to 20 students who will be freshmen in the fall.ā€ So nina1228, I donā€™t think any more than 20 end up being part of the program.

Iā€™m not sure about WUSTL yet - want to see the campus and everything before making a decision - so Iā€™m one of the SSP recipients who are undecided. And Iā€™m pretty sure you have to attend WUSTL to be part of the SSP.

@batfan. If your final decision hinges on your campus visit only, then you may be going to WASHU. With all the college visits we went, mostly private schools, this was the most impressive. The only negative remark i have if I have to give one is there informative sessions. I went to two, during the vist and one locally, different speakers but the script and how they delivered it was earily similar. Thay were like early models of andriods. Like they were on a play. Anyway thet is just one personā€™s opinion.

Yeah the website does say that. However, there have been years when more than 20 accept the offer. I think one or two years ago there were around 27 participants. I am not sure exactly how that all works, because of how the site is worded. And youā€™re right, you have to be an incoming WashU freshman to participate in the program.

@FLtoWashU,

Thanks for the feedback! Haha, thatā€™s funnyā€¦though admittedly eerie. What made WashU most impressive? Iā€™ve always wanted to go to school on the East Coast, so itā€™ll be a tough decision (assuming I get into schools there), not only bc of a potential scholarship but because it feels like WashU actually cares.

WashU was the first college I visited, and the friendliness of the campus really stood out to me. They really try to make you feel welcome.

St. Louis is a pretty cool city, as well.

Iā€™m a previous SSBBR and the past few years have all been very close to 20 students. Not all SSBBR recipients are finalists for other scholarships so you may not see them all at finalists weekend. Let me know if you have any more questions about the program.
