scholarship finalist notification?

I got the email, it’s for both. I’m an ED acceptance already…so I’m still excited.

My GPA is not very good.
Test scores are okay, (Claremont Standards)
Personal Essay was good, some people don’t like it, thought it was too silly.
Analytical essay…lots of errors apparently.

Why did I get it? Luck probably.

Thank you for sharing, MercyPlease2! You are being modest and must be great in some other areas. The essay and EC may have carried you over the hump! Good luck with the interview. It’s great that they do give it to EDers. So, it’s not totally a recruiting tool, :-).

Here’s more information if others are interested.

CMC Essay was about advising Obama on environmental and security issues. Wasn’t the greatest. Wrote in about an hour and proofread once.

yes, S got the email and will fly over for the weekend. what’s chance he can get the scholarship?

Hey, at least you will get some nice warm weather (sounds like you are coming from the East Coast?)
Good luck!

Thanks for the info Skyr4n. Dang, I have a 3.91 and a 34 ACT. Disappointing.

Hey there! First-ever CC post. I got my email this weekend as well. Decided to join because I know that I had difficulty finding numbers from past finalists when I was applying.

Objective:
SAT I superscore (breakdown): 800 CR, 770 Math, 760 Writing - (2330, took twice)
SAT II: Math 2C: 800, US History: 800, Lit: 750, Bio-M: 740
Unweighted GPA (out of 100): 96 point something. Not at all accurate because I transferred to local public school for senior year (old school had finan. issues) and all my grades and ranked got skewed.
Rank: 9/460, current school ranked around the bottom 20% in the state.

Major Awards: None really. NMSF, I suppose maybe a verbal commendation at Georgetown MUN?

Extracurriculars (only listing major stuff):
MUN: Head Delegate, 3 awards in 5 conferences.
Mock Trial: Captain. Helped found team at new school (captain there as well).
“The Challenge”: Captain. Basically a TV quiz show, old school went to state semis last year.
United Synagogue Youth (USY): 3 different VP positions. I’m also pretty active in the region.
Varsity soccer: co-captain at old school, starter at new school.
Varsity baseball
Varsity winter track: This year only, old school didn’t have track.

Job/Work Experience: Summer law office intern, little league umpire.

Volunteer/Community service: A lot of it through USY, and about 100 hours worth of various tutoring efforts.

Teacher Recs: Excellent, though I haven’t actually seen them. Also advisors in mock trial and MUN, respectively. New counselor’s was ecstatic though a tad generic.

Essay: I feel that this is what pushed me over the edge. My CMC essay (on King Saul) was possibly my best writing ever, and drew rave reviews from all who saw it.

State: NJ
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Pretty high

Overall, pretty darn excited
