Admitted into GWU with Presidential Scholarship of $15,000 but denied from the honors program. Does this denial reflect my competitiveness as an applicant, or does it mean my essays were just not good enough? And was the scholarship need based or merit then?

Your best resource would be the Financial Aid office. They could tell you for certain whether the scholarship is merit or not. If I were to make an assumption I’d say that it is not merit-based in that you’re required to keep a high GPA (although it’s quite possible you’re supposed to pass all of your classes).

most merit scholarships require that you maintain a min GPA. Most Presidential Scholarships are merit based, not Finaid based. MY D was accepted and received the Presidential Scholarship for 20K/yr and we aren’t finaid qualified.
