Hello,
I applied to the honors college and received my general acceptance in November and received the “at least” scholarship letter in December. My ACT score is a 32 and my unweighted gpa is 3.8. No idea what the weighted gpa is. I have taken dual enrollment courses for all my classes since my junior year. I’m almost 100% sure I will be attending USC in the fall but I’m not able to sign up for orientation, apply for housing, or anything like that because I haven’t paid the enrollment deposit yet. I am worried that if I pay the enrollment deposit before scholarship notifications go out in March that I won’t get as good of a scholarship because the school already “has me.” Will they give me a lower scholarship because they no longer need to provide as big of incentives in order to get me to attend their school? I know if I ask the school about this that they will deny it but has anyone had this experience? Also, since I got the “at least” scholarship letter in December, does this mean that I have a better chance at the honors college? I don’t know if I am reading into things too much haha but any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Really don’t know how accepting now would affect scholarship offers…I would guess not much but can’t say for sure. Couple of points - registration for orientation doesn’t open up until late March if like last year, which is after final USC acceptances and scholarship/financial packages have gone out. Housing is based on when you apply, not when you put down deposit so you have until May to do it - based on past there is no advantage to doing it early and you want to know about honors or capstone or whatever before you do housing. The housing sign-up for next year is live and you can certainly call and verify that it’s still the same way, but in past there hasn’t been advantage to doing it early. Therefore, if you want to wait, go ahead. Final HC acceptances go out mid- February so you can definitely wait that long if you think it makes a difference.
On a related note, D was accepted in Dec, but I peeked at her “check status” yesterday and noticed it has two honors recommendations (labeled 1 and 2, input on Jan 5 and 6) listed that weren’t there before. Any idea what this means?
^^ I think that is just an acknowledgement that they rec’d her letters of rec for honors application. My d has 4 listed and labeled the same way.
My D was accepted into honors in December but the letter of rec for honors only appeared in the check status list on 1-7-15. Maybe they are just updating?
Interesting. Just a guess but could it also indicate potential stages of scholarship consideration application is currently at in the evaluation process taking place in weeks and months ahead?
For example, maybe the initial rec level 1 refers to Sims, some applications then advance to level 2 Woodrow, level 3 Finn, level 4 McKissik, level 5 Coopers and so on all the way up ladder as process continues?
Total and complete guess of course!
Question: if you don’t receive an “at least” letter for scholarship money does that mean you can only get the minimum?
No, I don’t think so anyway… I think they just send those out to the sure bets. My D got one but my S didn’t but both got scholarships.
