the confirmation email says students need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow. however, i'm flying in from the east coast so that's gonna be a little difficult. anyone know if usc can do anything to help you out or have any suggestions as to what to do?

NEJsMom: I think you did the right thing to fly out to LA and stay at the Radisson. By the way, I see that Virgin America has some very reasonably priced flights to LA.

Swoopes2: If you don't want to bring a sleeping bag, I suggest you ask if there is a special student rate at the Radisson hotel across the street from USC if your parents will let you stay there.

my mom is coming with me and staying at the Radisson. i would love to stay in the dorm rooms but the practicality of bringing a sleeping bag and pillow with me is like 0. i'm just wondering if there was any other options since i'm guessing that i'm not the only one in this situation

does anyone know when other scholarships get back to you? scholarships like SCions, town and gown, and alumni club

Greeneyes24, you have to apply for those scholarships. Those are not among the scholarships you are automatically considered for by applying by Dec 1st.

Right I did apply... do you know when they typically respond though? Two of my brothers both got accepted to USC on march 1 but got called even before their acceptances to schedule an interview. But that was years ago so I wasn't sure if things were the same. I didn't know if people had already started to hear from them or when they respond...

greeneyes, my D had her Alumni Club (Trojan League) scholarship interview in mid March. She received an email notifying her of her selection about 2 weeks before that in early March. She received word of receiving it in April. As far as the other ones, I don't know when they do those.

Does anyone know if USC has special rates/arrangements for those who are going to be interviewed for the BMD program?

Sarararah, I suggest you look at "The Official USC Bacc/Med Thread" in the forum "Pre Med and Medical School", sub forum "Multiple Degree Programs". Sorry, I forgot how to link.
You will find it if you go to Discussion Home and scroll down .
There's a lot of discussion there, (present and prospective BMD students) You might find lots of info and answers to your questions.

swoopes2, there are very thin and small sleeping bags that take up very little space, as for pillow, you can always make do with a pillow case and some towels or clothing inside. Staying in the dorm room is part of the experience of Explore, really shouldn't miss it. Even if you just bring 2 top sheets (one to put on the bottom and one as blanket) but be aware that dorms with A/C can be on the cool side.

Same thing for me as others posted here. Accepted Jan 28, but Explore site only has dates for April, looks like I don't have a shot at Pres/Trustee.

Looks like I'm heading to Notre Dame instead next fall

greeneyes, town & gown sent me a letter last week, wanting me to schedule an interview in february...mine's tomorrow. so i guess they should be sending you one soon. i haven't heard from any of the others, though.

me722, have you already been accepted?

accepted to USC? yeah, i have.

ooh ok well then that makes sense. I haven't. But I was saying from my brothers' experiences that they both were called in February to schedule an interview, but then didn't get the acceptance letters until March 1. I guess it kind of spoiled the surprise... But that's ok. I was wondering whether things were still the same because they applied 4 and 5 years ago.
well congratulations on the acceptance and good luck on your interview tomorrow!

I’m packing to leave for Explore in two days and I was wondering if it was necessary for me to bring a sports jacket. I’m a guy and so far I was planning to wear some nice khaki pants, a fitted blue oxford, and a tie. I have a jacket I can wear but I’m going to be in LA (flying from the East coast) for several days and the thought of packing that thing in my little suitcase seems kind of daunting. The weather there seems like it will be warm on Friday (high of 66) I’m not sure if I’ll need it. I’m interviewing for film if it makes a difference. Any suggestions?

This week it’s kind of rainy (on and off right now) and chilly–and we LA types are weather wimps. I’d bring a sports jacket if you have one (maybe wear it onto the plane & hang it up if possible) with jeans? That’s very film-industry chic, btw. Just a thought. Otherwise, you might want to wear some rainproof jacket over your shirt/tie to get you to the interview and then take that off for the actual office interview.

you only need to dress casual for most of the program. You only need formal dress for the interview.
