i'm among those who are accepted but haven't got scholarship notifications~ i'm from china though....
the dates on the reserve page are all in april..~so that means i could only get a dean's or int'l schoalrship? a bit disappointed...~
btw, can i directly call the AOs to ask about the scholarships?~

Since you have an acceptance letter, I would call the admissions office about merit scholarships if there is no mention of anything related to merit scholarships in your letter.

My d is travelling to Explore USC + Scholarship interview by herself. Since she's flying in from the east coast, she needs to arrive the day prior to the start of the 2-day program. Will she be able to stay on campus with a host for two nights?

so i just talked to a USC admissions person and asked him why i would be accepted so early and not up for a scholarship interview. He said i was in the pool of applicants receiving merit-based awards other than the top presidential and trustee. Just thought i'd let all of you know, because i am sure same goes to everyone else who was accepted this early without a scholarship interview invite!

oh. thanks amy12 for the info
although i was really hoping for that interview :(

^^Does that mean that unless you have a letter now, you won't be getting a Deans either?

amy 12: thanks for your info...so i guess i am in the same pool~ so when will we get notified for other smaller scholarships?~

the admissons person told me we'd probably hear back about the smaller scholarships around march. kind of a while to wait... then again, i was reading older posts and it seems people may be told in february, so you never know!

To NEJsMom: I don't want to see your question having no responses, but I don't have the answer. Last year we were aware of some students who came the day before, particularly some internationals. I believe they stayed on campus, but may have had a friends to dorm with. Have you called USC to find out if arrangements can be made? I imagine there may be an extra charge.
Another alternative, should on campus not be possible, may be the Radisson if cost is not an issue. It is located across the street from a USC gate. Perfectly safe. Last year 4 floors were allocated to students dorms, and the rest of the hotel is often booked by parents of students for particular events.
I may also suggest you ask your question in the USC Explore thread, perhaps someone who knows will notice and have the answer.

I suggest calling USC. There should be a phone number on the invitation letter for Explore USC. Since there is a scholarship interview involved, it is really important that your child gets a good night's sleep and is not sleeping on the floor of a dorm. Is there a dorm which has an extra bed or couch available for the night before? If not, I suggest asking if you can get a discount at the Radisson hotel across the street from USC.

Thanks, sequoia and mdcissp, for your answers. I did call USC yesterday, but have yet to hear an answer. I thought I might get an answer quicker here based on people's past experiences.

I read on this thread earlier that many students attend the event on their own, so I assume they would need to stay on campus for two nights (unless they live within a short driving distance from LA). But based on your answers and the fact that USC does not have a quick response to my question, this might not be the case. Perhaps I should consider travelling with her.

I got an acceptance on the 23rd (I think; letter is at home so I can't check) and Trustee invite on the 29th. These both came after I withdrew my application.

Hi all! I was admitted to Marshall on 28 Jan and I have some questions on scholarships:

If I am an international student, how many kinds of scholarships am I eligible for?

Do they all require interviews?

When do offers for each scholarship usually come in?

From past years' experiences, are there cases where students get early acceptances (like me) but do not qualify for any scholarship?

All replies are welcome :)

NEJs mom: Did USC provide you with a travel agency for a discount on the airfare (and maybe a discount at the Radisson?). I think, last year, USC was giving either airfare tickets (in full or at a discount) for the top scholarship interview candidates (at least from what I remember on this forum). I suggest you call USC again to get the correct info. about housing and airfare costs. We live on the East coast so I am completely understand why your daughter needs to fly out the night before. When my son went to Explore day, I think we had to pay extra for him to stay the night before the morning of Explore (I think it was $50. last year). Since there is potentially so much scholarship money involved, if USC is a top choice for your daughter, I really think it is best for her to get a good night's sleep in a hotel room. If you feel more comfortable going with her, then do so. Even if USC finds a place for her to sleep in the dorm, how do you know that she will not be up socializing all night wanting to talk to current students? Again, I suggest calling USC again and getting more details what USC can offer housing and airfare wise. Hope this helps.

To CrookedI: Are you sure you don't want to re-instate your application? Why withdraw?

mdcissp, CrookedI was probably accepted ED somewhere. You have to withdraw all other applications when you are accepted ED.

mdcissp, yes, there is indeed airfair and lodging assistance from USC. That was very nice of the school. At this point, I am leaning toward attending the event with my d.
Since the interview is on day 2 and every interviewee is expected to stay on campus with a student host the night before, I don't think we have much control over the quality of sleep right before the interview. But yes, one bad night's sleep beats two bad night's sleep. :)

Last year my mom and I came in the day before and stayed at the Radission. She stayed the second night at the Radisson while I spent the night with my host. They had special rates for Explore. (I don't know what the rates were, my mom paid.) I don't remember an official option of staying with a student, but if your D knows a current student she could just arrange with that student to stay in her dorm room or apartment.

NEJsMom: If you decide to attend, I think it will be most worthwhile. There will be many parent sessions where you will receive all sorts of information. It's very well organized. There's also a very nice served luncheon where you sit a table hosted by a faculty member of the college in which your D has been accepted. It's also an opportunity to meet other parents, and have a tour, not only of the campus and housing choices, but of the surrounding neighbourhood.

toCollege & Sequoia: I decided to go and already made the travel arrangements (including 2 nights of Radisson stay). Thank you both for your helpful posts.
