Scholarship Issue

i believe Temple takes the taxes out for you, my son is about to get his first stipend and i thought that was in his literature. Basically, he is added to Temple’s payroll and they take taxes out as they go. Regarding how much will you owe at end of year, you could run it through irs website, my guess irs website has a calculator so you can get rough estimate from that, not sure if state of pa will tax you as well. ask me again when i see my son’s W2 at the end of the year about state and local taxes if any  Temple does a great job laying out your costs you don;t have to pay taxes on BTW. i think he gets a 1099 for that.

one stipend for provost sounds right…

Thanks @ctl987 for all your help. It sounds like Temple manages their stipends well. Hopefully the school offering me the scholarship has similar tactics.

oh, you are not coming to Temple :frowning: Well, i hope it goes great for you wherever you go

@danceologist, @ctl987 is correct. Most of the time Temple will take the stipends out. My friends and I who did summer research with stipends ended up getting 3k out of the 4k stipend money. I think they may have just started the 10k stipend since I personally don’t have any close friends with this 10k stipend even though I have friends who received the President’s Scholarship (whatever the one is that includes full tuition) and received three stipends of 4k. The 4k stipends are typically stipends that help to cover accommodation/living expenses for unpaid internships over the summer.

@futuredoctor24 The 10k annual stipend that I have been talking about was offered to me by another school–not Temple (although I wish Temple had offered me that much!). I believe Temple offered me the two $4000 stipends that are typically associated with the President’s Scholarship.
