Scholarship (merit) opportunities for soph year and beyond

I applied to Emory rather late in the process and thus missed the deadline for most of the merit-based scholarship opportunities (Emory Scholars). Unfortunately I'm one of those types whose parents make just enough to make it into the "no you're not going to get need based aid" but not enough to pay for my entire tuition without a few grimaces.

Are there many programs and opportunities to apply for other scholarships or work-study type deals after freshman year? Any info from current students, parents, etc, is much appreciated!

Yes, there’s the Dean’s Achievement Scholarship. It’s 10,000 for each remaining year.

You have to have above a 3.6 gpa and be have lots of Ecs. If you are accepted, you get 10,000 a year, and you are given Emory Scholar status (get to pick classes and housing earlier, etc…)

Did you apply for FA, even if you missed the deadline, and you need FA, Emory’s FA office is very flexible in helping students. Last year I applied for FA in the summer (my parents assets suffered a huge loss because of the recession), and I still got a considerable amount of money. I didn’t apply before, because my parents thought that we wouldn’t get any FA so it wasn’t worth it; after our assets were hit hard, we thought we might get some money; we ended up getting a lot more than expected.

I did not apply for FA, but can I still do it this summer before freshman year starts? Something tells me that’s a bit late, but I am definitely willing to give it a try if they’re still accepting. And thank you for the info, 3.6 sounds pretty reasonable (and so does 10k haha)

Yes you should try. Just tell them that you want to apply for FA. Its worth a shot, can’t hurt.
