I know for some schools my son was notified with his acceptance letter of scholarship money being awarded. Does anyone know if Penn State does that was well?
Thanks!

@Gator94KS if I had to guess, it would be in the letter you get in the mail
First of all, Penn State doesn’t really give merit scholarships. You can apply for departmental scholarships and also if you get into the honors college you get about $5k, but that’s really it. Penn State is notoriously stingy with financial aid, but if you do get some, it is usually announced around march. Definitely look into departmental scholarships though. College of Ag has excellent opportunities. Other departments do as well.
@jlhpsu this is different from the financial package they send out in February?
The departmental scholarships are usually based on academic performance once a student attends penn state. They aren’t offered before usually. Look at Penn State’s scholarship page. They have a lot of good information. But basically, most scholarships range from $1500-$7000 per year and only comprise 9% of available funding. There just aren’t many scholarships.
Grants and federal programs are different - but those are need based. You would know if you qualify for that in your award letter in Feb/March.
