Scholarship opportunity For INT students ? How can we get Max scholarships

I would suggest you attend college in your home country.

You have a number of issues in terms of getting funding here.

  1. Your high school performance isn’t the top in your country, right?

  2. It sounds like you need full funding. The colleges that guarantee to meet full need for all accepted international students are highly competitive for admissions. This means you really would need to be in the top % of students in your region. You are not.

  3. Many colleges that provide aid to international students are need aware. This means your level of financial need will be considered when your application for admission is considered. You have full financial need. This isn’t going to help you at need aware schools.

  4. There are a lot of colleges here that either provide limited or no financial aid to international students.

  5. You will need to add the costs of health insurance and travel to most college costs. This could easily add an additional $5000 to your costs.

  6. You say you want to do computer science? Well…that major is one of the most competitive for admissions almost everywhere it is offered.

  7. IF and It’s a huge IF you get a degree in the U.S. you will be required to return to your home country when you graduate.

  8. And I would agree. If you want advice from adults…start writing your posts like you are addressing adults and not a group of friends sitting around a fire pit.

With the recent layoffs in tech (twitter, FB, Google, etc), a lot of people who are currently working in tech who are here in the US on HB1 visas, will now need to come up with a plan because they will have to leave the US shortly (I think with in 90 days).

You are looking to come to the US to do what? What is your plan after graduation?

You talk about your relative who came got aid with a 3.25 GPA and a 1300 SAT? How long ago was this?

A 3.25 (which is not even a B+ average) is going to be a hard task to get admitted, and is probably not going to net you any money.

What are your options in Nepal?

Are you talking about University of MIchigan? If so…don’t waste your time.

There is no federal financial aid and limited scholarship funding available to international students attending U-M, though a short-term university loan may be available in the case of emergencies (see information below). Any scholarship consideration requires no additional application.

International students with F-1, F-2, J-1, J-2, and G-series visas are required to show proof of enough resources to meet their expenses while attending U-M and federal regulations limit financial assistance.

You should apply to that school and see what happens! Maybe, you get a discount because your cousin is already there.

I think ‘Word of Mouth’ or finding out which schools others from your region have found good scholarships is a great way to find a hidden gem.

My daughter went to Wyoming and happened to live on an international floor in her dorm. There were several on exchange programs. Wyoming gives Out of State scholarships (which includes internationals) but ACT/SAT scores are required. You might find other state schools from the smaller (population wise) states that do the same, so look at Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Maine, West Virginia.

You just have to dig. And you have to accept that with a 3.25 gpa you can’t be picky.

In the US, a 3.25 GPA is not very good. It’s not bad, it’s okay, but it wouldn’t be enough to get into state flagships, for instance, especially not for CS. So, what does your GPA mean in Nepal?

There used to be many students from Nepal at Howard but I think they’ve restructured their scholarships.

Berea may admit one student from Nepal and offer a full scholarship in exchange for work. If you think you offer enough for you to have a shot at being that one student, look into the admission process.

Have you thought about entirely online education?

Several US universities offer online bachelors programs. For example ASU offers a computer information systems degree (BS). Cost is about $16k per year. You can also transfer in credits from another university.
