I received my acceptance to georgia tech in december or january? not too sure, but didn't get any scholarship awards inside like most other schools include with acceptances. i was wondering if they are still offering any scholarships? i know financial aid awards come out soon, but i doubt i will qualify for any financial aid..soo any chance to receive a scholarship?

Many public schools that are not as awesome as Georgia Tech are so desperate for anyone with decent test scores that they hand out merit aid simply to try to raise their SAT average, or to lure non-residents. GT is not so desperate for either. Plenty of kids enroll who test well, and GT probably has the highest % of non-residents in the class.

Many/all private schools 'discount' their tuition by giving some aid to over half the class, knowing that the other students are paying enough to cover these scholarships/discounts. GT doesn't discount tuition; you're getting what you pay for.

This means that lots of people have small scholarships to private schools (yet still large bills to pay--what's $4,000 off Vandy's tuition? Not much! But your parents can tell their friends that you have a scholarship...) or decent merit aid to fair-but-not-great public schools (how much would they have to pay you to go from GA or NC or VA to enroll at a public university in a less-than-desirable or less prestigious state?).

So GT is kinda different--lots of people come to GT and pay for it, knowing that it is a great value, that there are more and better jobs for our graduates, etc. [It's so much easier for job recruiters to come to Atlanta to hire you than to little towns far away from major airports...].

GT is a great choice for people who don't want to overspend on college, yet who want a great education from a top 10 public university.

So that's why there's no 'signing bonus' in your admissions envelope. Hope that makes sense!

That's the impression I have too. Ga Tech doesn't need to lure prospective students in. Even though some offers seem "generous",-not really so.
( GPBurdell knows a lot about Tech- Thanks for the insight)

For scholarships- check out this link:

You'll also want to check your local alumni association. They almost always give out scholarships (but it's a little late for them - they usually do it right after PS decisions).

yeah i figured they didn't give out too much merit aid..just wondering if there was any hope in getting some here in the next week or so ohh well

Yes, there is hope.
