I have heard of scholarship scams out there. Does anyone know if there is a web site that maintains the list of scams?
is this one ok

http://www.cksf.org/

where there is a strong demand for something, there is always lurking the huckster who might attempt to exploit that demand.

That's a really good question. I had an additional question, to add to it: what are some giveaways that a scholarship opportunity is a scam, aside from the usual "send in $_"?

Another thing to watch for, in addition to send in $, is when anyone asks for sensitive personal data, such as ssn. this can be just as valuable - and scamworthy - as $.

Now, a good scholarship place, not a scam one, MIGHT ask for sensitive bio data.

In the computer world of viruses, there are sites that inventory viruses and .exe's that you can check against in case you have it present on your computer - so that you know if you should remove it or not.

joecollegedad--I also wondered about www.cksf.org when I first found out three years ago, but after winning scholarships from them, I can tell you that, yes, they did actually send me the award. Before that, I had checked with a very credible source at FinAid.com who told me that, if FastWeb posts it in their results, they're highly unlikely to be a scam. You can read more at http://www.finaid.org/scholarships/scams.phtml if you're interested.
