Scholarship Stacking?

I talked to one of the ladies at Student Services and she said that the merit scholarships could not exceed the costs of tuition…and she mentioned that we couldn’t use the NBS or maximus for room and board.

I really hope it isn’t true…I’m just going to wait for my financial aid award…but I’m kind of disappointed with the whole thing…if I can’t use the NBS and maximus for other things, then there is almost no difference between the excellence and prominence awards in my situation.

@itsv: Did you talk to anyone from the school or did you just find out from the award section from the student center?

emailed the Financial Aid office concerning stacking scholarships from NBS and Excellence in MSP. his response:

You can have all three scholarships together, or else you would have been awarded all of them. You also do not need to accept them, you did that by accepting your admission to the university.

*the third scholarship is Financial Aid

so i guess you CAN stack them. i don’t know about the other like maximus though

That’s good…I need to wait and see how my situation plays out now…I think I’m going to OSU regardless however. I just don’t see why I can’t stack my prominence and NBS together.

yeah goldentide, my mom is going to call and have a nice little conversation with them tomorrow. it’s completely unfair that you can stack excellence but not prominence, what’s the difference between the two then? i’ll post back what i hear.

I’m on the same page as Goldentide and avenlea (Nat’l Buckeye + Prominence) and I agree it’s kind of unfair that those 2 cannot be combined… I mean we earned both so…?

The pending award can be found in the student center on the buckeye link. log on to buckeye link. Click student center. Up will pop up a page with your schedule (one you register) and a lot of other categories. Click on campus finances and then account inquiry.(both on the far left of the page). click on activity or payments and you scholarship will be posted in this section. If you have not accepted yet then it might not appear yet.

As I posted in another thread you can stack the NBS and Promience scholarships. The best person to answer your questions is scholarship services in the OMA department.

You can’t stack the NBS and Prominence. I spent a good four hours calling various offices and talking to different people. It’s been confirmed. If you’re out of state, they’re combined to pay out of state tuition. They’re saying they’ve never had them stacked in the past too, so I don’t know.
You can stack it with other scholarships though, like trustees.

Too bad… well thanks for going through all that so we wouldn’t have to

Thanks avan for going through the trouble. I don’t think we should lose all hope yet.

I guess we should wait and see what we get for the award summary on the Buckeye link. You never know…but I’ve already accepted the fact that NBS and MSP Prominence can’t be stacked. If NBS does stack on top, like in the case of itsv’s ds, it will be a very pleasant surprise. But I’m pretty happy that the maximus can be used to pay for room and board.

Yeah, I would be too but they told me that they will be combined together. Maybe an error will happen, who knows. Still better than nothing. :]

Are you sure that Maximus can be used for room and board?

Well avenlea said that trustees can be stacked with the MSP Prominence. Since maximus is basically a trustees (different value though) it should be able to be stacked on top of MSP Prominence. And if it can’t be used for room and board…it could be used for books and what not.

yeah, it can be. it’s only NBS that can’t.

I received multiple awards from OSU
Prominence from Morrill Scholars
National Buckeye
and the Provost scholarship.
I also got three other awards from my FAFSA. So i believe you can stack them
