How does the Financial Aid Office deal with multiple scholarships? I currently have the MSP Excellence Award, which provides for full in-state tuition, as well as the standard $3,000 Maximus scholarship. Will I lose Maximus, or will it go towards housing and meal plans? I am also a National Merit Finalist; if I receive the OSU scholarship for that, will I be able to use it to mitigate my housing fees, or will it be worthless?

not sure, i’m pretty sure you’re allowed to keep both scholarships. i received the Excellence scholarship from MSP and the national buckeye scholarship as well and so i’m in the same situation as you. i looked it on on their site and I saw that as long as the cost doesn’t “exceed the total cost to attend Ohio State”, then you can combine scholarships.
so to answer your question, I think you can stack them but you should probably call the admissions office to make sure

no stacking…dd was NMSF and won the Medalist thru Maximus. Her letter stated once she was declared a finalist, she would receive the distinguished and Medalist would go to next in line. However, now that distinguished is no longer full tuition, you may be able to keep both since your Maximus is not full tuition either. Also, when she won the OSU sponsored scholarship from NMC, it did not add on to the distinguished amount…we argued many times that she had originally won the Medalist and that it was OSU’s decision to award the Distinguished instead so she was entitled to the $1000 NM award also…no go.

I actually called the admissions office about me. NMF Distinguished Scholarship does NOT stack with Maximus, aka Maximus is non-existent if you choose to designate OSU to NMSC. You will still keep National Buckeye. So essentially, if you already have Maximus, NMF is only worth $1800 (the amount over the Maximus).

I was actually very disappointed to learn this because without both, it does not cover half tuition.

^ does the same apply for those who received National Buckeye Scholarship / MSP Excellence?

I can’t say anything with certainty about the MSP Excellence because I’m not familiar with it, but since Maximus wouldn’t stack with a half-tuition NMF scholarship, I highly doubt it would stack with a full-tuition scholarship.

^^You do keep National Buckeye, regardless of other scholarships.

@hasnoidea
Yes but I am from out-of-state and they offered me a full in-state scholarship. So it means it doesn’t exceed my total costs. Also I saw that it could be included with other merit scholarships…so I think I can stack?

@maxhuang8
You should be able to stack your National Buckeye and MSP excellence to cover total tuition costs. I think you should call the admissions office to ask if Maximus would stack as well. I just know that it would NOT stack with the NMF Distinguished because it stated that the NMF Distinguished Scholarship “includes the value of all other merit scholarships” (except National Buckeye).

i know as someone who got the prominence that i’m not allowed to us the national buckeye with it so i would call and ask.

I also got the MSP Prominence…but can we stack the maximus on top of that? And I’m pretty bummed out that we can’t stack the National Buckeye on top of the prominence.

me too goldentide! and thats what im wondering too.

@avenlea

are you an in-state or out-of state residence? maybe it already covers your total cost

if it doesn’t cover total cost, why are we not allowed to stack the scholarships??

Gotta call them tomorrow…Was hoping to use maximus in order to help cover room and board. Btw…I’m wondering if the same thing happened to previous msp winners…

im out of state, from maine. they told me that my prominence + national buckeye = complete out of state tuition (which makes no sense, because then what’s the difference between excellence and prominence?) and i also have the trustees, 1,200, which i wanted to help use pay for room and board. let me know what happens with you, i think it’s so dumb that we can’t stack scholarships.

My ds last year received the morrell prominence award, the national buckeye scholarship, and I think his third one was the distinguished one. He was allowed to stack them so they cover all tuition, fees and room and board. We received different answers about stacking from OSU depending on who you asked. We found out they would all apply when we logged on to his “pending award” section of his student center whenhe loggedontohis buckeye accout. OSU allows you to stack certain scholarships as long as the total doesn’t exceed the cost to attend.

Hope we can do that this year too…do you remember if the email was along the lines like this one?

I am pleased to announce you have been selected by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to receive the Morrill Scholars Program Prominence Scholarship. Congratulations!

The Prominence Scholarship, in combination with the National Buckeye scholarship, is the value of in-state tuition and the non-resident surcharge. This scholarship is renewable for a maximum of 12 quarters (four years) of undergraduate study. Your scholarship benefits will end if you complete your undergraduate degree requirements in fewer than 12 quarters (or the equivalent) of undergraduate study.

@itsv not sure what you’re talking about with the pending award section

because i’m out of state, and i received excellence + national buckeye scholarship (which doesn’t even cover the total tuition cost), i should be able to stack them right?

yeah goldentide! i got that too, i think they might have changed it this year but we should fight it. i just don’t know how.
