Scholarship Thread

Ok I didn't apply for any scholarships since i was too lazy and missed the deadline. Anyways today i was notified that i was a Thomas H. Eliot Scholar and that I will be getting 19500 dollars. I'm sure there will be a lot of scholarship acceptees here. Post here and celebrate.

I was really surprised and happy because it's my first non-safety scholarship. :)

Congratulations.

Were you notified by snail mail? Was the good news in the same letter that said whether or not you'd be getting need-based aid?

i got it via mail today. It came in a big package. The letter listed the financial assitance award i got which was basically scholarship and student contriubtion. But the funny thing is that there's no mention about how much financial aid i'll be getting or how much my parents will be paying. Idk i'm confused and will call the office after i read all the pamphlets. Thnx.

Good job! Can you post your stats? I am hoping to get one of those also, because I also was too lazy to apply for the scholarships.

I got $30000 scholarship + 7000 student contribution. I'm relieved.

Did you find out in the same correspondence that deals with need-based aid, or was this a separate correspondence?

financial aid department, or something like that

With all due respect, how is what you posted in any way responsive to the previous post, or to anything else for that matter?

For people that got their financial packages already, where do you live? I'm in NJ, so when can I expect mine?

If you were referring to me, I'm sorry. I was about to leave to somewhere and I didn't check the exact wording.

"Office of student financial service" was where the letter was from, and I assume that's where they take care of need-based financial scholarhips because the letter said they decided the amount of scholarship according to CSS profile I sent them.

ok i got it from student finaical services and i live in northern VA next to DC. Rosenkavalier did u get any info on how much ur parents r supposed to pay and the amount of need-based aid? I didn't get any of that info.

If Rosenkavalier has been given money based on the CSS Profile, then it looks like it's not a scholarship, but rather need-based aid.

I guess we're supposed to do total expense - (scholarship + student contribution), but I'm not sure.

Partially need-based.

I left out a part- it said academics + CSS profile, which is probably right b/c one of my friend who also got in got almost as much as I did, and his family is very rich..

"Scholarship" doesn't necessarily mean that need is not considered. As far as merit-only awards are concerned, there have been reports that some unadvertised scholarships are given to some admitted students, but the majority of merit-only awards are through the advertised scholarships requiring separate application.

To you scholarship recipients: How much was your CSS or FAFSA EFC? I got the Eliot scholarship too and I only got about $7000 for it.

mine oh crap i realized that i didn't file FAFSA to WUSTL or finish the CSS form. I only sent in income tax returns is that sufficient?

Uh oh.....No definitely not....

yet somehow i got 19500 dollars on scholarship. I have no idea how this Eliot Scholar thing works. I am one but no clue at all. Anyone know anything about this Thomas H. Eliot scholarship and how the money works?

And here i was happy i got 5800...:[
