Anybody else get theirs today?

Haha, it was nice that they made it seem like a big deal award to be getting $1,100. But hey! I'm not complaining. It's better than nothing, right?

Unfortunately I got nothing. If I decide to attend, I'll need to pay the full $40k+. This leaves me with some difficult choices =

yeah i got my national merit finalist scholarship and that's it, nothing else. sigh.

can u guys please reply n tell me which type(s) of scholarships from wustl u applied for? and if u really did have a financial need and expressed it? because their website, and collegeboard claims that they give average packages of 20 k to those who need it...and their website i remember claimed most students get full tuition paid...

i applied for the howard nemerov english scholarship in january and didn't get it. i was recently given the eliot scholarship, which is $1,100.

but i'm a jprog, so i only pay half of the first year's tuition

I'm confused... I applied for Compton and got a letter saying I wasn't a finalist. But my friend who got the same letter told me today that she got another letter today that told her she had a 1/2 tuition scholarship. I got nothing... does that mean I get no scholarship? Or does everybody who applied get another letter with a scholarship rejection or how much money they get?

$39,980 in scholarships/aid ($10,000 need based.)

Going to college for basically zilch! :)

faenix - something tells me they looooooooooved you. congrats!

mine came- $11,913 for a 20k tuition(j.prog too)....not too bad....

I really should have applied for one of the scholarships, even though I knew the probablility of getting the full tuition was basically none, but I might have been able to get some other merit based one.
Oh well, my father's paying anyways so I shouldn't really worry.

My daughter applied for one of the full tution scholarships last year and did not receive it. She did receive the Nemerov, plus a 1/2-tuition scholarship. The 1/2-tuition letter just showed up one day. She doesn't attend WUSTL, but she liked the school a lot.

on what basis did any of you get aid that got anything?

Congratulations to all of you! I received my financial aid package yesterday, and what we're paying after the financial aid is significantly more than our EFC (about 10,000 more). I don't think I even qualify for federal work study, which I would do in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, given the numbers, I don't think I can afford to pay for the school (I'm getting a job soon I hope, and applying to scholarships). Is there any way the financial package could change given a phone call, or something of that sort? Thanks!

i'm not an expert on financial aid but a phone call couldn't hurt. you could explain your situation more and tell them wash u is ur 1st choice [sounds like it is]. your college counselor could even get involved. it seemed that whenever my college counselor talked about financial aid, she always stressed calling the college if they don't give a satisfactory package.

does anyone know if wash u gives merit scholarships that you don't have to apply for? i recieved my financial aid letter and it said that i don't qualify. i didn't apply for their merit scholarships with the jan 15 deadline [i saw no point if they only give out 3]. i'm not looking for any full tuition but just wondering if they give out any money that doesn't need a separate app, etc.

Hi Smile05, thanks for your reply- it was very helpful. On my financial aid letter, Wash U statese "financial assistance is based on two factors: academic merit adn your family's financial circumstances, and academic merit is the factor that establishes eligibility to be considered for financial assistance. Your family's financial circumstances (financial need) help us to establish the amount of your financial assistance award." I'm pretty sure they give out scholarships w/o having to file a separate app.

Yeah, I got a Gustav Kurt Mesmer scholarship for $25,550 and never filled out any of the separate academic scholarship applications. So yeah, I guess they do give out some at least without filling out another application.

Same here, soulturtle. I never turned in any scholarship forms, but when my financial aid came in the mail, I received a John M. Olin scholarship of about $17000... I wonder if that's renewable...?

I applied for Moog Scholarship but they said no for that, and I got that letter before anything else, so I was all disappointed. BUT! Then came the delivery man to deliver the acceptance letter (which I already knew caz I checked online) plus the Eliot Scholarship worth $14,000. They didn't know how much money I had (I still haven't sent the Financial Declaration thingy) so I suppose it was based on merit.
I didn't apply for need-based scholarship caz I was international and I was scared it might hurt my chances =/ Maybe I should've.

I got rejected from the Danforth Scholars, but got $9,900 (some scholarship name I forget), plus some $2,600 in loans.

I got money for National Merit and for the Dean's Honorary scholarship. $8000 total merit aid, 0 need-based :(
