scholarship

If I got an outside scholarship, will the finaid office deduct it from the UCSD grant or from loans/work study? I know of schools that go either way, but I really hope san diego isn't super stingy cause there'd be no point in trying hard to get an outside scholarship if they're just gonna deduct the amount from grants. Anyone have information on that?

if they tell you to report it, you'd better report it. my guess is yes, though.

so in the end all of your scholarships will take out from their grant? great. basically i'm just taking less money from them, which they like.

Yup, they'll deduct the total amount from their end, so essentially it evens out.

They'll deduct. It sounds really ridiculous, but in the end the school doesn't have unlimited funds. Last year, they deducted $300 or something from my grant because they didn't have adequate funds, and they let me take out a larger subsidized loan. It sounds really stupid to take away money because of external aid (I'd be ticked off too) but it makes sense to me

they'll deduct from loans and work study first and then grants if you have money left over. at least thats what they did to me

yeah i just called them and the lady said they'd take it out of loans first and then work study unless the amount exceeds both, and then they will take it out of loans.

The outside scholarship notifies the school anyway

I wouldn't risk being a probate just to have a little more money
