Scholarships and reduced tuition

My D, a freshman, just received a scholarship from the business school for next year. The letter explicitly states that although her scholarship is $500 or more she will not be eligible for reduced tuition. I was under the impression that anyone who received a scholarship did get reduced tuition. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to change it?

I think it might be b/c its a departmental scholarship and not a University awarded one.You could check with the Bursar’s office for clarification.

I just got one that was for 900 but said I wasnt available for reduced tuition no idea why though

Just a guess here but could it be budget cuts removing the in-state tuition option?

The $500 one sounds like the Woodrow which doesn’t automatically get the in-state rate.

Departmental scholarships are just that, granted by the department and not the university. Only general university scholarships carry the added benefit of reduced tuition anywhere from partial to full reduction to in state levels.

Departmental scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the department:

Here is the response I received when I asked the business school about it:

“Although the Moore School has participated in the tuition reduction option in the past, due to budgetary constraints, the Moore School did not award new tuition reductions for scholarships awarded for the 2010-2011 academic year. No students awarded new scholarships for 2010-2011 were granted tuition reduction. Students already receiving the tuition reduction from last year were renewed for one year.”

I am not sure if this applies to other departments. Hope that clears up any speculation.
