Scholarships based on Merit

I have read that UTD grants deserving students generous scholarships. My question is not typical.

I am a former UT Austin student with a poor GPA. I have very good professional credentials with work experience at top firms, but I suffered academically.

My question is this. If I were to take classes at a community college and did well in them, before applying to UTD, would this help my chances at receiving more scholarships? With such a poor transfer GPA, would I be eligible for any scholarships that UTD grants, or would it be primarily need-based allocation?

Also, what kind of packages are offered to transfer students? I read about tuition being covered and receiving a $1500 stipend towards housing...is this for first time freshman entering the university only? Or does UT Dallas provide similar awards to deserving transfer students?

Thank you.

Bump. Anyone have any thoughts?

Scholarships for transfer students are treated differently from freshman applicants. As a transfer, you need a 3.0 GPA to receive the minimum ($500/semester), so I think bringing your grades up with community college would dramatically help you to get the merit-based help.
