Hi, just wondering what the average financial aid that NYU gives to student. Or if it might be different for MT’s because it’s such a small program that they can give out more talent scholarships.
Any comment would be helpful!
Thank you!

I don’t know what the average is and I don’t think such information would be all that helpful because financial aid is based on NEED and everyone’s financial background differs and so you are not comparing apples to apples on that end of it. Aid at Tisch (and likely at Steinhardt) is a mix of need and merit. My kid went to Tisch and got a substantial scholarship but again, it was based on both need and merit and I don’t know what portion of it was need and which was merit but was told that both were used in determining the amount.

2 years ago, although we had been told that NYU did not offer substantial scholarships, my daughter, accepted to Steinhardt MT, was given a combined financial need/academic scholarship that put the cost of the school right in there with some of the other BFA programs that offered smaller scholarships. We are a middle class family with parents who have teaching as a profession. As soozievt mentions, the scholaship is offered as a whole and not broken up into specific pieces. However, NYC is still a very expensive city to go to school in . . and they are looking for students with strong academic standing. Do not rule it out if you are interested in either the Steinhardt or Tisch MT programs, but make sure you have other schools that you know you could handle financially and academically.
