I would like to apply/audition for Tisch’s MT program, but NYU is so expensive and I was wondering what the average scholarship/grant amount is that students receive. I heard that many students receive very little and I was wondering if that is true? Any information would be appreciated!

First, there are no "MT" Scholarships. There are scholarships, however, for NYU Tisch students. I have no idea the "average amount". I think it is best to ask this directly at the school.

As well, the answer may differ if you are a financial aid applicant or not. There are merit scholarships which you can get if not a FA applicant. If you are a FA applicant, the scholarships will be a mix of merit and need based.

Again, I do no know the "average" amount. I have heard of people getting 7K per year. I have heard of some people getting 10K per year. Some have gotten 20K or 25K per year for four years. As well, you should know what while at Tisch, sometimes they award scholarships in addition to what was awarded upon admissions. My kid is a senior at Tisch (entered CAP21), and got a four year scholarships when she was admitted. As a senior, she has gotten three additional scholarships.

SoozieVT- pray tell! How did she get 3 more scholarships?? Inquiring minds want to know (esp. since child #2 is going to college next year!!)

RossJi, I honestly have NO idea!! One of the three scholarships, I have a little clue about but not the other two. My D was told over the summer that she was nominated (by who, we have no idea) for a named scholarship as there are some scholarships apparently for seniors in Tisch. She had to go meet with someone for a little interview about her time at Tisch and stuff like that. Then we got notice in late August of that one. That one was a named scholarship and she had to write a thank you note for it. Then, on one statement from the school, we saw another scholarship. Then, on our most recent statement, we saw yet another scholarship, this time with a name (the Al Jolson Scholarship). I don't know how these came about. We just opened the mail and each time a scholarship appeared on the statement (three times in three months). These were smaller scholarships compared to the four year substantial scholarship we opened when she was admitted (that was also a shocker as we had no idea that existed as a possibility).

Wow - good for her! She is active in so many facets of theater and music, it's no wonder - and very well deserved!

Chiming in here to say that my D, a first semester freshman, was given a generous scholarship upon admission to NYU/Tisch and then, last summer (about a month before school began), another quite nice :) scholarship appeared on her financial statement/bill as a credit. We called and found out that, lo and behold, she had been given a talent scholarship we did not even know about! Needless to say, that was very, very nice news to hear, especially as she had not even applied for it.

So these things do happen, like manna from heaven! :)

I agree...it is like manna from heaven as the kids did not apply for these scholarships and they seem to appear on the financial statements like "gifts". :D

In fact, we first noticed it on a Sunday and thought something was wrong, and I spent a half hour Googling the name that was on the statement to figure out what it was. No luck. So it was a particularly nice surprise to find out that it was a scholarship that just seemed to appear out of nowhere.

This is not something I would expect will happen to my kid again, but it sure was appreciated when it did!

NMR...it might happen to your D again. I never expected any new scholarships in senior year and voila, three came. Your D is on a roll. :)

HELP!!!
I need some awnsers from any dancers. I am going to attend NYU, and be in debt, but I was wondering if any of you knew about the summer dance tution. I understand that through out the year it will be expensive, but I was wondering if you knew about the tution, and if you recieve scholarships or grants or loans for those programs. thanks!
