Did any accepted students get letters in the mail about merit scholarships yet? (as opposed to just the online notification)

No, nothing in the mail yet!

What came in the mail for my daughter was not a duplicate of her acceptance letter and merit offer , as we expected. Just a big envelope with " Congrats, you are a Huskey "
I have spoken to the financial aid office about the possiblity of more merit money, perhaps from students who choose not to attend.
She also got an offer from another school ( her " safety " ) with a little more than offered by NEU.
she also has four regular decision apps still out.
We are hoping for a little more, since we most likely will not qualify for need based financial aid.
She has her heart set on Northeastern

I just pulled out my old file on son's paperwork. He is currently a sophomore at NEU. His merit letter was dated March 16. He was accepted EA in mid December.

ebeee, was your son offered any merit money upon his admission, or did the offer come only on March ?

The merit money letter came in March. Admission was EA and came in mid December. Keep in mind this was two years ago... but generally speaking I think the merit money stuff comes about after they have looked at the RD applicants.

My understanding was that merit money came with the EA admission info but that there may be more after RD is complete. Also, the larger scholarships are announced at the end of February but there are only a few awarded.

We are returning from the EA accepted students day at Northeastern
It turned out to be a good one and found out that daughter's finaid is in. We are very pleased and will send in deposits tomorrow.

lje62, congratulations on your finaid package. If you don't mind, did your daughter get any additional 'free' money, in addition to her merit money, in her package?

thanks.

mulligan, she did get some free money in the form of a university grant.
she got a combination of merit , grant , scholarship and federal loans
( relatively small, so I think we will use them ) She also got a work study .
We didn't expect anything, so we are pleased.

Initially when we read her offer, we thought she got more than she actually did, because they included the merit offer she got upon her acceptance.
We were really happy, til we realized our error and it burst the bubble a little bit
All in all,we got about half of her expenses covered , which is a lot better than we got from our other daughter's college.

lje62, thanks for the response. We've been thinking that the merit aid my son got at acceptance would be it, but now you've given me new hope. We'll just wait and see.

I wish your son luck, mulligan. I have found the people in the financial aid office helpful and friendly.

If your student is receiving merit aid you will want to sit down with them and go over the renewal terms to make sure they understand what is expected of them in terms of gpa, etc.
My son is currently a sophomore. He has had no trouble with the terms and they do offer a grace period for one semester but it would be prudent to make sure your student understands the terms.

My D got a merit award with her EA decision and then another award last week from financial aid.

santosfan, was the award last week need based financial aid? or a merit scholarship?

It was need based but I'm amazed that we qualified.

Thank you all for your posts! You've helped me greatly in knowing what to expect. I submitted 12 RD applications (0 ED/EA) and have received 6 back (3 with packages of 12k/yr or more) but I most eagerly await northeastern's response.

All my peers thought I was crazy for submitting 7 RD applications (and also 0 ED/EA).
