I just got my letter today… Got Maximus and National Buckeye scholarships!

I also need to fill out the HOSA scholarship app and the college of engineering scholarship app. Anyone know what kind of stats you need to get those scholarships?

I don’t know exactly what OSU looks for but I was just a finalist for a similar scholarship to the Presidential at Indiana (Wells). Everyone had good grades and scores but it seemed like they were looking for people with experience outside of the classroom too and that may have stopped some of the other candidates from making it as finalists. I’m guessing they are similar but I don’t know. I’ve been trying to find out too lol.

Awesome! Congrats.
My mail doesn’t come until later but I’m anxiously awaiting it!
I’m home sick so I think I might fill out the HOSA…I just keep procrastinating.

All Maximus scholars get a $2000 Maximus scholarship if they participate, so at least your getting some money. As for your chances for the other scholarships… you probably have a good chance at a Provost scholarship.

As for the Medalist and Presidential scholarships, you shouldn’t “count on” those. There are only 40 medalist (full tution) and 10 presidential (tuition + r & b) scholarships offered. There are no “stats” needed-- these two scholarships are based on the quality of your Maximus essay. Maximus essays are two essays you write in two hours, mainly about current events topics. I won a medalist scholarship at OSU last year, and I can give you some hope: you don’t have to be a “writer” to win these. I didn’t win creative writing awards in High school or write in the school paper and I still won this essay contest. They grade based on the quality of your ideas, not the aesthetic appeal of your work.

How long ago were you guys accepted? Like how long after were you guys notified of these scholarships? Cus I was told that if I applied by December 1st, I wouldn’t need to fill out applications for scholarships, is that true?

The Maximus Scholarship is $3,000. If you receive a Maximus Scholarship, you are inelgible for the Provost Scholarship.

It appears that this year there will not be a Maximus competition. Instead, finalists for the Presidential and Medalist Scholarships will be determined through the HOSA application.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Nessats is right. No competition this year. Kind of makes me mad because I would have liked my chances better on a timed essay than the HOSA essays mainly because I’m a huge procrastinator and didn’t put enough time and effort into my HOSA essays Therefore the people who spent more time on their essays will most likely have better essays than mine. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that cuz it’s my own fault I didn’t spend a lot of time on these essays, I just wish they still had the competition instead.

i actually put little to no effort into the HOSA last year and just copied essays i had written for different things. i ended up getting an interview and recieved a Joyce scholarship. if you have any questions about the whole process just post email me at alderman.27@osu.edu . OSU is an awesome school and i hope you guys come here
