I spoke to someone in the Financial Services Departartment this morning and they said that once my son becomes a Finalist I need to send a copy of the letter to his specific Finanacial Aid Counselor and they will give him a Full-Tution Scholarship at that time. They also said that both his Dean’s Scholarship and University Grant would be replaced by the National Merit Scholarship.

I am grateful that they give out this scholarship and that it qualifies him for the Honors College because otherwise he did not make it into the Honors College.

In February, National Merit Finalist are announced. They award Full-Tuition Scholarships to National Merit Finalists in March for EA applicants.

Definitely call or email them if you are concerned. What UAH did left a very bad impression of the school; they could have easily taken down the scholarship awards page but chose to leave it up so students applied thinking they would get the full ride. All the students who would have gotten the full ride will probably go elsewhere especially the OOS students or end up at UA which still has the full tuition scholarship.

Yeah, I don’t actually expect Northeastern to do anything like that. They are a much more high profile school than UAH and have made enormous strides raising their rankings in recent years. It’s just the anxiety of all this application stuff this year. I’m much more stressed out than my D. I start imagining all kinds of strange unlikely scenarios?

Nope! No “scholarship letter”. Only FA and Admittance letter for my NMSF kid. Evidently I cannot private message s/o if I have under 15 posts. Only joined today in my parent panic! Any other info shared is so greatly appreciated!!! Thanks to everyone!!!

My D was fortunate enough to receive the University Scholars Scholarship for full tuition. She is NMSF, so I don’t think that being NMSF excludes a student from the full tuition scholarship consideration. She is planning to be an engineering major and her basic stats are: 35 ACT, SAT2 Math & Physics 780, her ECs are good (she didn’t start a foundation or anything) but she did win a few regional and local competitions in music and science.

Parent1234 - There is also a Northeastern Grant that isn’t a scholarship so it does not have any name. My son received one in addition to a Dean’s Scholarship so this makes me think it is a needs based award.
