One of the stickied posts is about how financial aid works at NYU. It pretty much said that NYU gives money based on how much they give you. What do they look for when giving large scholarships? At first, I initially crossed NYU off my list before even thinking about it because of the cost, but if it is possible to actually make t affordable that would be great. If someone has personal experience with getting a scholarship and what kind of stats they had, that would be great. I’m looking at business and I know Stern is already so competitive so I’m not really sure how amazing you have to be to get some money.
For starters, you must understand that the only money you will get for Stern is financial aid. So the first question you need to determine is whether or not you have need. If you have need, then the amount you will get will be variable based on how much they like you. If you are a really strong candidate and have need, they might try to meet most of your need and not gap you. An average candidate might be accepted, but will have an average gap between need and NYU’s offer of financial aid in scholarship money. But that same really strong candidate will not be awarded any scholarships if they doc not have need. The only exception is if they win a MLK scholarship that does not require need. The MLK scholarship is a university-wide scholarship and not specific to any school. All applicants are considered.
