Question: Even though the school has already sent me my FAFSA, am I still able to win university scholarships?
Also, the website says scholarships continue going out until the end of March. Is it likely that I could possibly receive more, or will the big ones have already gone out?
I asked this question of Financial Aid and Admissions when I called about two weeks ago. The lady told me the financial aid and merit aid/scholarships are entered by two totally separate systems, and they have different deadlines for notification. So I am guessing they are trickling out throughout March, although some were awarded far earlier. What college did you get into? I know you can look at the 50th percentile to see where your stats fall on the Scholarship pages in the website. Good luck! I know we are really hoping here as well.
BTW, D is in College of Design, 32 ACT, 3.94 UW/ 5.01 W, great ECs and recs; also only have Finaid so far
For the last two years, it seems the bulk of university merit scholarships were awarded in two batches, one in early December and one in late January. There are some scattered comments of others that appeared to be rolling notifications through March and I did see a couple that indicated some departmental scholarships may be awarded even later into summer. Note that depending on your EFC, merit awards could potentially reduce any need-based financial aid.
My son got his letter of financial aid award last week indicating nothing expcept loans and work study. Today, though, he received the National Scholarship for $5,000 a year. It was a very pleasant surprise! He also applied for the CLA scholarship, but that one said they would not hear until sometime after June 1st. Hope this is helpful information.
At a recruiting event for UMTC tonight the admissions folks said that scholarship money frees up as students decline admissions to UMTC…so the next students on the list then get that scholarship offer.
