Have anyone received any scholarships that they applied?

from UT? nope…kind of losing hope now…

no but i have received an invitation for UT Scholars Day. It says it is for accepted students who receive scholarships. i guess it is for national merit

I got a call from dallas texas exes about scheduling a scholarship interview. They said they’d call me back with the time since I couldn’t do it Saturday, I received this call Wed. though, so I guess I’m just waiting…don’t know what my chances are though. This is specifically for UT by the way, in case anyone didn’t know.

Don’t give up hope. My son received a scholarship over the summer before his freshman year. It just showed up on his fee bill without notification. It wasn’t huge ($1000), but every bit helps.

i got the James A Bush scholarship and i called to ask how many people got it and they said a couple hundred

My son received a scholarship a couple of weeks ago.

flatxca,

Which scholarship did he get? Had he applied personally or was it some kind of award?

I believe it came from the Texas Exes or alumni and it was $1000. He did not get it until the summer.

What flatxca said makes sense b/c I got an email from the dallas texas exes saying my interview would be april 13/14 which I suppose is when other applicants who couldn’t make the saturday interview will be going. By the time they conduct interviews and review all the applicants I’m thinking a lot of time will have passed so getting an award in the summer seems reasonable. Also, I don’t know about flatxca’s son but I applied for the scholarship.

He applied with his general admission application. He did not interview.

Do you think paying the enrollment fee and everything early hurts your chances for scholarships? I mean, they know you’ll be going regardless so why give money?

^All that shows is that you really want to attend the school which gives you more of a chance than others in getting it. If you’re deciding who to offer a scholarship to and you have to choose between a student who doesn’t even know if they’ll be attending the school and someone who really shows dedication to the institution by turning in their enrollment deposit? IMO someone who really wants to go to the school is more likely to get the scholarship than someone who’s wishy washy about it. Why would UT waste precious scholarship money on someone who might not attend? And judging by your username I’m thinking you’re in the category that’s more favorable to those handing out scholarships at UT.

Fin aid dept said some of the smaller scholarships are distributed throughout the summer.
