blahhh im in southern ne. damn i’m already losing hope. oh well. that’s what i get haha

gac, there are 16 art categories and 10 writing (not counting novel and portfolios), but I’m not sure whether there are award quotas for each category. I’d rather see the best works win, irrespective of categories. You should ask Scholastic in June.

belle07, there’s no reason to give up hope before 4/7. To be honest, however, I’ll definitely stop stalking the mailbox after Wednesday :)

I think April 7th is when they’re going to post on the website. You’ll probably hear before then if you won - national award winners have to email/notify Scholastic by March 26th for any changes and art winners must mail their work before March 31st.

Thx for the important detail, tsubomi. My personal Wednesday deadline makes even more sense now.

is everything being released now, even writing portfolio?

belle, tsubomi’s letter says “national award winners have to email/notify Scholastic by March 26th for any changes and art winners must mail their work before March 31st.” Since this has to apply to portfolio winners as well as individual ones, my guess is that all winners are notified at the same time for national awards.

Good luck! Mail between my town and NYC is pretty fast, so I wouldn’t worry too much yet.

Even if you don’t win a national award, you’re still probably an amazing writer or artist.

Hopefully some of us can meet in June! :]

I won a National Gold Medal for Short Story. I live all the way out in New Mexico, so I didn’t expect to find out so soon. My sanity returns. :]

Congrats, rachael!!! Are you going to NYC?

I doubt we’ll have the money for plane tickets and hotel reservations, but I’ll cross my fingers. :]

Congrats to all regional and national winners! It feels awesome to win and it never hurts for college resume padding ;]

Silver medal for poetry package came in the mail today–Maryland.

Congrats, Hunt!!! Good job.

Heyyy, has anyone submitted anything for the novel contest? When are the results out for that one?

anyone gotten portfolio yet??? i’ve accepted that i’m not winning haha

Yes, a friend of mine got two Silver Medals for her non-fiction and general writing porfolios. :)

I have also received good news - two gold keys for a short story and a poem. Nothing for the general writing portfolio, but I’m not complaining.

@belle07: I’m still not going to worry too much until April. I never technically received my Gold Key package in the mail yet, so since there’s obviously a substantial time-lapse thing happening in my case who knows WHEN any hypothetical notification could arrive. A friend of mine with pretty similar writing ability got her silver medal portfolio notification recently. But she lives in MA and I’m in Canada, so I dunno.

All together, now: it ain’t over 'till it’s over. :D

Congrats, jules!!! And thx inhabited_world. Count me in for the chorus :)

Hmm, I got a National Silver Medal for Photography.

Does anyone else get the impression that Scholastic is doing this for the money? Like, they have the prestige, so they know that students will pay money to enter for no prize? From what I understand, no one but the top students who get Gold Portfolio Awards get the significant scholarship money. And by inviting students to New York – call me cynical – but they probably get some % commission from the hotel that’s housing the students.

Well, they offer fee waivers so I don’t get that impression. shrug

Congrats guys! I’m def. entering next year!
