found it! The five silver winners are from AZ, CA, ID, MA and PA
all women…congrats all!

hello,

i just received a packet informing me that i’ve won a regional gold key for novel writing. i’m pretty surprised, since i thought all the winners were announced already. does this mean that i’m out of the 12 who received this honor, or is there a wider range of winners? also, would my award mean that if the site listed the winners, i’d be put under ‘certificates of merit’?

thanks for reading and answering!

^ i got the same thing a few days ago! i was pretty surprised, too. from my understanding, 140,000 entries were submitted to the art & writing awards, and of those, 2,000 writing entries (all-encompassing, meaning poems/short stories/etc.) recieved regional gold keys, and 12 of those were novels. so you (and me) would be out of the 12, yes. it’s kind of phrased weird in the letter, i know.

that’s pretty much all i know :]

How is this done- can one enter without a teacher or a school ?

Oh, definitely. My school had no idea I entered. In fact, I’m pretty sure my school has never even heard of this.

How do you enter without a teacher? Do you just ignore the teacher address on the submission form?
also, I want to do something in writing. What are the categories for that, please?
Sorry, its just I looked on the website and can’t find anything for some reason.

Oh, wait, for the novel category I know you don’t have to have a teacher. I don’t know anything about the other categories. Are you homeschooled or something? Because homeschooled students can enter too.

From what I can remember, the writing categories are Poem, Short Story, Short Short Story, Personal Essay/Memoir, Screenplay, Journalism, and Novel. I may be forgetting something, sorry. You can also submit a writing portfolio if you’re a senior.

Scholastic is pretty disorganized, it’s no wonder you couldn’t find anything. :]

Thanx, no I’m not home schooled- my school just doesn’t always do a lot of things like this and I want to do more things my junior year ( rising junior) but thank you- does the competition have a topic ?

I’m a rising junior too… :]

Nope, no topics at all. Your school can’t hinder you from this, don’t worry. And good luck to both of us next year!

THAnks, I 'll try to see if I can do it next year- see you!

does anyone know how good this looks for college admissions? (no i’m not doing it for that, i’m just curious_

Hey everyone, I have a question about being a self-taught artist who is also homeschooled. Do I put myself down as the art teacher since I’m self-taught?

you should probably email or call and ask them.

so i got this little postcard thing that says “You are invited to the scholastic art and writing awards reception honoring gold and silver key winners”

so what happens if you get a gold key and what happens if you get a silver key?
any info on the awards would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

hey everyone, I’ve been reading this thread for a while, but could someone tell me where to find the winners? I know its on a scholastic/push website but I am still having difficulty finding it (probably from the disorganization haha). I also submitted a fantasy/sci-fi and have recieved no phone call that I am aware of, but I am still very interested in seeing the names of the winners. Anyone have a direct URL?
