Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Three gold keys, three silvers, and two honorable mentions for writing in the NYC region!!! YAY!

A gold key for writing portfolio and a silver for short story in the Northeast region, the other three categories I entered are still pending but Iā€™m happy! It says to check back Monday for the results of those other ones. Congrats to all!

Mahhhhh I canā€™t even breathe, I won 8 honorable mentions, 9 silver keys and 9 gold keys for writing. I literally canā€™t even breathe what is life

Congrats to everyone who won!

This is my third year submitting for the CA writes region, so I can confirm this - yes, historically, silver/gold keys are notified by Jan 31st. However, this year there will be no awards ceremony and only gold keys will be notified by Feb 4th. Speaking of gold keys, I found this at [Scholastic Art & Writing Awards](http://www.artandwriting.org:)

ā€œAll Regional Gold Key Winners from across the country will be posted here on Friday, February 8, 2013ā€

Best of luck to everyone - - keep your fingers crossed, you never know what will happen! :)

Congrats to everybody!

My results got postponed until tomorrow. I was expecting the results to come today. RAGE!

does anyone know if the future new awards are national or not? I looked through the region-at-large results, and it seems that no one has won for future new.

Oh my gosh, congratulations to everyone!!! You all did amazingly!

I got two silvers and a gold, and Iā€™m thrilled! Have they announced everything so far? I was trying to see who got American Voices but it doesnā€™t look like theyā€™re up for all regions? Or do they not have nominees from all regions?

I was looking for the American Voices nominations, as well as the NY Life winners and the Duct Tape challenge thing that a friend entered. On the facebook page, someone asked and apparently, we have to email the head of our respective regions to find out the nominees

Iā€™m not quite sure about Future New (cause itā€™s new this year), but I think NY Life/Duct Tape/BIG are chosen from regional Gold Keys (and many times the winning pieces happen to also win national medals). The American Voices/Visions nominations are the only awards that I believe are region-nominated (I think 5/region)? You donā€™t have to win a natā€™l medal to win Am Voices/Visions.

So have the California winners been notified? The end of January has passed but I"ve heard about some delays.

Does anyone know how much of a boost the gold key awards are for HYPS admissions? I have won gold key at regional level for three years now. When I started doing it I never expected to win but now that I have and the college admissions are coming up too, I am wondering if I should put these down on my application. Any thoughts, anyone?

As far as I know, not much. There are just too many gold keys every year, probably at least 15K+ this year.

I suppose itā€™s better than nothing, although I agree that too many people win. I entered this year for fun and got a regional honorable mention, which is nothing, but it was a great experience! I guess add it if you have nothing more significant :)

is all judging over in California?

I only got a silver

Hey so I dunno if this is weird, but Iā€™d love to read some of the pieces you guys sent in. :]

Also, for American Voices/Visions, the head of the NYC affiliate emailed me today saying theyā€™ll be posted next week on the NYC blog.

The CA writing results will be posted on the CaliforniaWrites webpage along with the list of winners from the last 3 years. It does not seem that people will receive personal e-mails unless you win a gold key, informing you that your work has been sent for national judging.

Yeah, for CA writes, the wording is reeally vague. notification ā€œby Feb 4thā€ means anytime between now and themā€¦

My D submitted three writings and won no gold key, but won two silver keys and one honorable mention. Is it still worthy to put them on her colleage application and resume when she applies to relatively good (?) schools? Thanks in advance.

Why not? I think it could only help. Colleges understant that writing competitions are very subjective, so winning anything at all is veiwed as an accomplishment (not to mention the fact that she took the initiative to submit in the first place).
