I’m planning on submitting to YoungArts, assuming I’m OK for the age limit when it opens. Congrats, Shakuton! I’m totally buying your book!
@skipper99 self-publishing is a good idea, but make sure you have enough time for advertising. I spent a really long time sliding through the publishing world in an effort to get an agent for a fantasy novel of mine, so I’ve learned a bit about it. If you’re writing a novel, I’d really advise getting an agent, as traditional publishing comes with perks. But if you really want the independence of self-publishing, go for it! I’m pretty sure that Createspace on Amazon is free, so you should probably use that.
Five days and counting!
UGHHH I swear I’m dying, this is taking TOO LONNGG! I mean they already finished judging so why not spare us and send the result now!? XD
@shakuton Dude CONGRATS! XD
@FlameAlchemist I agree dude! I did full on research on the publishing industry and you must know what you’re doing and you’re pretty much on your own if going into Self-publishing and need to work really hard in advertising your book, I mean hence the term self-publishing.
@Lunarlitgend @FlameAlchemist thanks for the comments guys! I am using create space and I am self publishing because it is a poetry book and not a novel per se… after doing research and submitting to some publishers, I realized that many big poetry publishers/agents like to see a credible following first…so I’m going to attempt to self publish, enter multiple other contests, advertise as well as possible, and hope I can go even father but again thanks so much for the input and advice!
@Skipper99 You’re most welcome! Good luck on your journey dude because I see you going really far with this! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! And when you become famous don’t forget to mention me LOL!!! XD
@Lunarlitgend aww, i can only hope so…but thank you! you can really tell that everyone on this thread is already super dedicated to art and writing and definitely going to go far in the future. i’m so happy scholastic exists for high school creators like us- anxiously waiting for the 13th!
@skipper99 You’re welcome!!! and Dude, I feel you, I feel you so much! And I do too, I love seeing all this passion and it really makes me feel like I’ve not only found some sort of family but I feel much less alone. I only have 1-2 writing friends so it’s really nice meeting so many people sharing the same passions as I do.
I hope to become a serious author/writing entrepreneur one day and maybe even create my own literary arts business someday or even work for a literary business like Scholastic XD
@Lunarlitgend I agree 100% I don’t understand why the wait is so long!!
4 more days and counting guys!! So close!!!
I don’t even know if I’ll be able to talk on this chat on the day of the results because of all the emotion I’m gonna feel LOL XD
I got an email from Scholastics about the Poetry Coalition and just almost had a heart attack lol
me too!! haha
I’m so nervous! Every time I get an email, I freak out!! This is making me way too emotional!
@FlameAlchemist OMG SAME!!!
GUYS! WE’RE SO CLOSE! 3 MORE DAYS TILL THE RESULTS!! Every time I get an Email I start freaking out OMG XD
Aaah I only have one poetry collection in nationals but still—
@StreenaSkywalker It’s okay I feel you, I only have one work too so my chances of winning or slimmer in comparison to those that submitted more work xD
Good evening, fellow artists, writers, dreamers–2 days and 25 minutes left! I’ve got one short story in nationals and I’m hoping and praying…this year is my last chance to win something to put on my college applications. Good luck to everyone and may God bless us all. Fingers crossed.
