School Based Merit Scholarship Recommendation Letter Question

So, we’ve been looking at requirements for the various merit scholarships my S19 might be able to apply/receive at his list of places he would like to go. Most of them require one to two additional letters of recommendation. He is prepared for the Common App recommendations, (and his own writing of all the supplements) and those will be fine. But with his list of 10 institutions, there are 8 that will probably require “something extra” from a teacher.

I teach Kindergarten, so I don’t have to deal with letters like this - I am only asked to write a fun note in “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” How can he ask someone to write a letter that might need to be revised 8 different times for the 8 schools? Should he ask a few that he could rotate for the different schools? Do the scholarship letters need to come from strictly academic teachers, or can elective teachers write these? I’m a little lost. What do you all recommend?

I have written letters of reference that have gone to multiple places. Really…in this day and age with word processing…it’s very very easy to customize each letter with small changes.

I would suggest he ask the teachers who will write letters that will make him shine. He can ask if they would be able to do 8 or whatever the number is. My guess is…this won’t be a problem.

Thank you @thumper1. I appreciate your input!
