does fsu give an @fsu.edu email to all students? when do we get them? is there anything else they give, like web server space?

[Blackboard Academic Suite](http://campus.fsu.edu)

Click “Activate FSU ID”, and you should be able to create your email account assuming you’ve paid the deposit and everything.

FSU does not give web server space to my knowledge.

so it will be after I pay the deposit? right now I can log in to blackboard using the FSUID I created for the application

You will still need to go to blackboard and click “Activate FSUID”. You will get a new username in the format “fml11a” (first/middle/last/year/randomletter), and that name @fsu.edu will be your fsu email address.

I don’t believe this can be done until after you pay the deposit.

yikes, thats what they give for emails?

Actually the final letters are not random. The first person with a set of initials for a year has no final letter. If your initials are mac and you apply for your FSUID as the first one with those initials in 2011 then your email address is mac11@fsu.edu. Then, if you are the second person you are mac11a@fsu.edu.

The folks who were accepted with the first group and activated their email addresses in 2010 have 10 in their email address. Those who activate in 2011 have 11 in the address as in mac10c@fsu.edu or mac11g@fsu.edu

do you activate it only if you are sure you’re going to FSU?

Wait and activate once you know. There is no drawback to waiting. I am not even sure the link will work until you have paid a deposit. FSU does not send anything to that email address until you have paid the deposit and are signed up for orientation, and even then they will use your existing email until you change it at orientation or after.

I didn’t pay the deposit until March, and I activated mine as soon as I was accepted for the fall semester ('10). It’s unfortunate because I have an ugly email like xxx09m@fsu.edu/email when it could have just been xxx10@fsu.edu had I waited.

Dnerd, wouldn’t that be thirteen (xxx09 and 09a-l) people with your initials?

Yeah, look at the time I posted that… I needed some sleep lol
