School is preventing me from going to out of state competitions

I don’t know if this is the right website to post this on, but i’m desperate.

So the time I went to a national level competition sponsored by the school in my freshman year, apparently I made a mistake with wandering off and staying past curfew time.

Now (even after talking with them one time), they’re requiring that I need a parent for all upcoming out of state competitions. And this has really been a struggle in a lot of areas, especially with how expensive this is. And the thing is that I may be missing out on these conferences all because the school’s fascist administration won’t allow me to attend it alone. It would be a huge struggle for my parents to attend, they’re busy with work and one of them has a huge health problem at the moment.

Currently we’ve spoken with a school administrator who has reported to the committee, but still they aren’t willing to grant me a second chance. They also ignored in an email about a possible contract to sign away all responsibility towards my parents rather than having them hold me liable for anything.

tl;dr, the school’s administration won’t offer me a second chance even when i’ve handled plenty of other trips fine and have been very responsible and hard working throughout the school year.

So what do I do here? I really want to compete out of the school on school related competitions/extracurriculars and the school not affording me a second chance will really lower my ability to participate in these kinds of stuff. I mean they really teach me a lot and i’ve met some great opportunities, scholarship chances, programs, people, etc, at these kinds of out of state competitions and conferences. And I guess winning a reward would even help me keep competitive for selective colleges.

What do I do here!!!? My parents are already having a long discussion about this as I speak, and one of them has been back and forth with an administrator of the school like 2-3 times on emails.

Should I just continue speaking with the school authorities or something?? I really don’t know what to do! :frowning: How can I convince them?

Also sorry for my awful grammar and the unnecessarily repetitive and long post, but i’m in panic mode.

So I can think of about three options.

  1. See if you can have a teacher/advisor to be your chaperone to these national competitions. When I went to the FBLA national conference, it was just my advisor and I. The school and my advisor had no problem with it. In theory, if it's an extracurricular competition, your advisor should already be going with you so there should be no problem.
  2. If you have any friends going to these competitions, see if their parents would be willing to be your chaperone. Explain to their parent the situation and if they're understanding they may have no problem with being a chaperone, especially if their child is going anyways.
  3. See if you have any other trusted adult that can go with you. This may be other relatives, members of your church, or any other community members that know you well enough. This should be one of your last options seeing as these people may have no connection to the school and the school may be more hesitant of approving this.

I hope everything works out in the end. Good luck!
