School Laptop Program

Anyone have one of these? We are issued laptops at the beginning of freshman year that we use during school and take home for all four years, except we turn them in for the summer at the end of the school year.

It used to be pretty cool, nice for notes and everything and occasionally I would play a game to pass the time, but some kids would go way overboard with it and not pay attention at all. It is really nice for notes though because we can type written stuff and use the stylus pen to draw stuff, or even write if you prefer.

This year, however, they hired a new tech guy who makes it near impossible to play games, and implemented "quota time" for recreational internet use, which gives you 40 minutes of rec. internet use time which can be used in 5 min. installments. You can use the 5 minutes to unblock certain sites like sports news sites and, well, that's pretty much it.

Worse, they have this monitoring program that lets any teacher or staff member with a laptop view our screens at any time, including when we're at home. As long as we're connected to the internet, they can see us, which is really creepy.

What do you guys think? Anyone here have one at their school? It's pretty useful, but its just gotten so boring entertainment-wise. I'm not saying I want to fool around on it all day, but every forum, game site, social network imaginable is blocked. Also, I can't help but get the feeling some weird teachers enjoy creeping on us when we're at home.

Does it matter? Use your own computer for fun and use your school laptop for schoolwork.
