Okay so the main choices for subject tests are physics and chemistry, but I want to go into biomedical engineering and after asking I got a response from tufts that if I intend to go into biomedical engineering then I can take the biology SAT subject test instead. But I’m reading an article and it says that only a total of fifteen students are allowed to major in biomedical engineering? Does this mean that out of all applicants that state they want to go into biomedical engineering only fifteen are chosen? Does applying as a bio engineering applicant only make it harder to get in?
I’m pretty good with bio and I’ll probably do better in that subject test, but I’m also taking ap chem right now. Can’t say I’m doing the best and the score would be a little risky since I only have one shot at the test. What would you suggest?
Biomedical Engineering is relatively new, interdisciplinary variant of engineering. The more traditional engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Civil) are applications of physics and chemistry hence the historical association with those subject tests. Biomedical can involve Biology as well, so the Bio SAT is OK.
When the Biomedical Engineering program was started enrollment was by application only after freshman year. I thought that that restriction was lifted. How old is the article?
Usually you do not choose a specialty until your second year. Not sure how admissions handles applicants that appear to be more suited for one particular specialty.
