My daughter was recently accepted to Frost School of Music for Vocal performance. Unfortunately she did not get any scholarships and our expected contribution is the full amount. Given the cost of attendance is 68,000 its not even an option since that is half of my income. I wanted to reach out to see if anyone has any suggestions on how to appeal for financial aid etc…Perhaps I made a mistake on my FASFA I am not sure. I would appreciate any guidance.
Thank YOU!!
Your FAFSA would give an EFC and federal aid. Even if there is a mistake, it’s not going to get you $68k (if you income is $120k, you’d only qualify for unsubsidized loans). If no music scholarship, and no need based aid, I think you have to move on to other schools.
Do they have a net price calculator on their website? Did you run it before your D applied? University of Miami is not a school that meets need, so it isn’t unusual for them to not offer enough aid to make it affordable.
Also, for music performance majors…performance merit awards are based on the strength of the audition…compared to others on the same “instrument”. So…she was competing for those awards with other vocal performance majors.
Any chance she received some performance merit aid elsewhere?
