What is the competition to get into the School of HOtel Admin like? I understand they have a separate admissions program for incoming freshmen. Does anyone know how many students apply/accept, and what factors they look for? Also, does their program also include other travel and hospitality careers -- cruises, timeshares, etc.

Seems more fit based, and you have to prove somewhat that you’re interested in going into the hospitality industry. You should have somewhat a competitive SAT and GPA. You don’t have to be a genius, but you can’t exactly be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

You should have some work experience. I can’t imagine that experience as a waiter/waitress/Maitre D’ will do anything but help you.

The School of Hotel Administration looks for a student who is genuinely interested in the hospitality industry. I agree with MT, you should be somewhat competitive stats-wise, and even if you don’t have typical hospitality experience, you should be able to relate the skills learned in those other experiences to skills necessary in the industry.

The program spans from Operations (Hotels, Casinos, Clubs, Spas, Airlines) to Food and Beverage (Restaurants, Banquets, Wine and Beer) to Finance and Real Estate. There are actually many options available.

I urge you to check out the Hotel School’s website and look at all of the course offerings and the different concentration. The Hotel School is not for everyone but everyone who goes there loves it!

Good luck with the admission process!
