school of humanities? or...?

hey CCers,

i'm a rising senior who's going to apply ED to Rice. problem is...choosing whether to pick the school of humanities or the school of natural sciences (or even social sciences?).

my best high school grades are in humanities-related high school courses, like history and foreign language, and i also have many awards that have to do with french and latin. obviously, these would lead me to pick the school of humanities due to talent/ability.

however, i'm seriously thinking about doing bio/premed later on instead of a humanities major. =\ i'm pretty sure i want to attend medical school. i have pretty good grades in science and math classes, but as mentioned above, most of the stats on my application are more humanities-related so i don't know if i'll be able to get into the school of natural sciences. oh, and there's also the fact that i like psychology too, which belongs in the school of social sciences. talk about confusion...

my decision as of now is to apply to the school of humanities and then pick the bio major/double major during my soph year, go to med school, etc.

...o_o what do you all think? is the school you are admitted to in Rice really that important?

thanks!

Apply to whatever school you like, rather than what you're simply good at. However, if you want to be a doctor, you can always major in a humanities subject and take non-required biology classes etc. to fulfill premed requirements. It's easy to transfer between schools (except into music).

Apply to humanities I would say. Transferring is easy anyways, plus you can major in the humanities and still apply to medical school fine.

I honestly don't think it matters. You can change very easily and its not like applying to one certain division will increase your chances of overall acceptance. I applied to hummanities with a major in history and am now thinking of switching into natural sciences.

all right, thanks!
