I finished my essay and then realized I might have misinterpreted the question. When it asks you to explain why you are applying to that particular school of study, do they want you to talk about why you want to study whatever you're interested in, or why you want to study it at Rice specifically?

why you want to study that field in general, I believe

its talking about the field... not Rice. Like if you are applying as an engineer.. why do you want to be an engineer etc.

err...was this really an essay question? I wrote like 4 sentences answering it.

hmm I hope not...
I just wrote a really straight forward answer instead of being all essay "cutesy" or essay "sophisticated."

Good, that's what I wrote about. Thanks guys.

And yeah, it is more of a short answer than an essay. Sorry for the confusion.

I wrote an essay for it though.. hmm

Its those annoying text boxes they have you type in. Someone should give a suggestion that they indicate a rough length because you really can't tell from the box how much information they want. I literally just "filled up" the box with four sentences.

You could type in it?
I seriously couldn't get any editable text fields, so I handwrote mine.

you can type in it using Adobe Acrobat

I didnt have that so I typed it on a blank sheet , cut it out and stuck the text in the space

I downloaded a free trial of Acrobat just so I could convert it into an editable form. It worked nicely. I didn't want to handwrite it because I wouldn't have been able to fit as much in :P

ughh well I guess my version of Adobe Acrobat needed to be updated.
Yeah my handwritten app will probably look pretty bad now ;]

Other schools provide versions of their .pdf application forms that allow typing in text. Rice did not. They must be expecting them to be handwritten.

It's okay, what you actually wrote matters more than how you wrote it.

yeah.. im surprised you cant submit the supplement online. Something to talk to the university about
